Hey guys,
I currently own a 2002 nissan primera P12 JDM spec.
This model comes equipped with the QR20DE and Hyper CVT transmission.
Recently the CVT has started leaking fluid and in order to top it up i need some help on how to go about checking the level of CVT fluid..
Now i know there is a dipstick, i just need help on how to go about checking it..
Do i have to check it when:
it is cold and car is at a standstill with engine off??
with car idling??
it is hot and car is at a standstill with engine off??
with the CVT in drive and car idling??
Also the dipstick has 2 notches with a gridded area between them. The 1st notch is about 1in from the tip of the dipstick and the 2nd notch is 1in above the 1st notch. I'm assuming the lower notch is the cold full mark and the top notch is the hot full mark??
need some help ASAP guys....thanks. |

idiling in park or neutral on a level surface and warm (or at least run thru the gears a few times to actuate the torque converter).
i have heard about checking it in drive.....makes no difference IMO....but having it in drive with handbrakes up is dangerous

negative.....the top mark is cold full...the bottom mark is warm minimum level |

BS.
The hot mark is the higher one (fluid expands when warm). |

DUH of course I'm right. No way the hot fluid would be the lower mark!!!

Hey dipstick, since apparently your brain wasn't in gear when you made that comment.....so let me clarify for you:
I meant to say that I can't believe that someone like yourself would actually encourage someone to stand infront a car in drive....it sounded like a "mango tree mechanic technique".
No one with any experience/commonsense would do that.
Look at my#tech posts before you start posting n00b.
Now go run along having had YOUR 15 secs of fame. |
