Very interesting.. I'm in barbados, and have been trying to diagnose a very poor mpg problem (bout 13!!). Cannot find an o2 sensor. Car performs well tho. no symthoms at all.. odda dan di gas. 96 323f ba lantis gt. 1600 inline4 FI (local). Hooked up a wide band and it was running rich. Adjusted that.. but she still drinkin hard.
She also got di idle dip prob.. which stayed fixed for about a week after I bypassed the ecu and adjusted the 'ambient' idle.
i goin ask di dealer bout di o2 sensor.
engine compression fine an everyting.. think I might have to change the cats; tired of spending widout a fix.
Anybody ideas?

if it is there the o2 sensor it will be right below the exhaust manifold where it joins into one pipe

Very Interesting statement you made there..

What evidence do you base that statement on?

Did you take both a local 323 & a foreign used and compare them both on fuel consumption over a certain distance?

Fuel consumption depends on alot of different factors, biggest one IMO is driving style. I own a local 323, bought it brand new from southern sales in 1999, came with a ZM-DE and gas consumption was great! I work in POS and live in San Fernando. My daily gas bill was approx $30 dollars, with the A/C on.

Now I have a ZL-VE in my car and the couple times I used it to go to POS it burned much more than $30.. Off course like Maztune said, that is thanks to the 250cc injectors #Flash

zm de has an o2 sensor just depends on where it comes from
zl's were only foreign used
all the local 323's from 1996 onwards came 1.6 b6 or zm

Well... when I changed out my Local ZM-DE, we never saw a o2 sensor and another tuner with a local 323 told me this was his experience as well.

i have an O2 sensor, the way things work locally, is that we get the same trim levels offered to the UK, hence the reason why we get the 1.6 and 2.0(we dont get all the trim levels available to the UK though). The Japan mazdas are 1.5, 2.0 and 2.3, thats from what i've researched, the foreign used 323's that come with the 1.6 comes from singapore...when i changed out my zm-de exhaust manifold i put the o2 sensor adaptor on to the zl-ve manifold, das the evidence, but i guess all are not the same,

Never saw a zl or zm without an O2 sensor. Without one you'll get shitty gas mileage.
