So i have been monitoring a lil problem i had a lil while now and after about 6mths, i can say that it is gettin worse, slowly but surely. I was told to check the pcv valve and that seems to be working good. I think the problem is beyond that now. The pic will show that i am gettin some oil appearing around the seal. How do i rectify this problem? Btw, it's only happening on that one.

Those valve cover grommets fail after a while. The correct way to rectify that problem is to purchase replacements, remove the valve cover and change them.

But as a temporary fix you could clean the exposed surface of the seal and apply some hi-temp RTV silicone which will help to stem the seepage into the plug tube...Cool

doh go the silicone route
pull the valve cover and do it right because eventually the others will start to fail
get a new valve cover gasket and the spark plug hole grommets
if yuh car have a distributor change that seal too one time while its all gonna be open

cinco, exactly what I was going to say..
I observed when you fill too much oil in the engine these plug hole seals fail prematurely too..
But change them all out with OEM seals from the respective vehicle company because they are not that expensive and you don't wanna have to see about this in a hurry again.

ok. d car is a fuel injected b15..i jus wanna understand sumtin coz some mechanics at wok was tellin me different. when i remove the rocker cover, i would have to change that gasket? And, those spark plug hole grommets can be changed individually? Is it a difficult task? Guys at work were tellin me i need to buy a whole new rocker cover..

If the gasket is old, it disintegrates when you remove the valve cover. It can also be damaged if you do not remove it carefully. So in those cases it'll have to be replaced.

As for the grommets, they usually come in a set. As the other users have said, if you're going through the trouble of removing the valve cover it's best you change all one time.

What model engine does your B15 have? It may be difficult to get the grommets locally depending on the model of the engine. That's why the mechanics may be suggesting that you get a new cover altogether.

If you have the facilities then you can order the kit online which carries both the grommets and the gasket... Cool

LOL...well I think the proper term is the valve cover (and by extension valve cover grommets). At least that's what I see in the manual for my engine.

Down here fellas go say the rocker cover and a long time ago (in a galaxy far far away) when push rod engines were extremely popular they used to say tappet (pan) cover...Laughing

Once you explain yourself properly it shouldn't be problem.

it is the valve cover and valve cover grommets
take my stupid advice and change the gasket one time because guarantee when u take it out it will tear or be stuck to the cover.
make sure u clean ALL the old gasket goop from the cover and the head before you put it back on.

oh btw if you so inclined its the perfect time to paint the valve cover if you want to

so i was doin a lil research and they say ff you purchased a valve cover gasket kit, don't forget to replace the small rectangular gasket and the "spark plug seals" as well while you have the valve cover off the car. i think i have all the info now. I will monitor the situation and probably look around in d meantime. thanks for all the advice fellas

no need for anything else just the gaskets
the spark plug seals are the same thing as the grommets
