nice nice.....was just wondering about the size of the screws used to build box----were they not a bit too short?

If you use sufficient wood glue, then the screw lengths should be fine. However, I'd still use 2" screws to hold the MDF together.

IMHO 2" wood screws is a little overkill for 3/4" MDF. But then again is better to be stronger than weaker and if you shopping home depot the difference between a box and 1 5/8" screws and some 2" is just about 10 TT Dollars or some like that so might as well.

i use the 2" screws with the 3/16" shaft, the huge ones, as well as 1 1/4" brad nails and evostik for 1" MDF, and for 3/4" use evostik and the 1.5" gypsum screws. They work good enough.

but your box look rell nice pimptacular and from what i seeing here that install gonna look rell pretty when it done.

you could maybe try and do a fiberglass something for the amp rack.

all I want to know is:

ent they stopped making oz audio? where does he get these things from? I know mr pimptacular dares to be different with his equipment but I am curious now. or were these salvaged from the other car.

what is he going to do with that mtx amp in the back of the car there since I see no plans for it.

Sully- I used Gorilla Wood glue

car freak pretty is not really my thing, i rather simple but effective..fiberglass amp rack? not for me its too much work and not necessary for me as im not competing again or going to be showing off my trunk..

so im doing a false floor with a top so i could atleast maintain a little trunk space..so it would sorta be a stealth install because obviously you would see a big sub box steering you in the face..

JEFf i havent gotten to the front stage yet..but midbass in the doors, midrange in the kicks and tweeters on the doors in stock location but this could change maybe..

slacker jack- yes JTI sadly stopped manufacturing the oz audio line but i've had the 3 way set more than 2 years and i used it for a few months then took it out and then i huff kurpal v2 the 2way components 5.25 which i used when i competed.. you can find them floating around but they dont come by very often

the mtx amp is just gonna collect dust or saved for a rainy day, i might even put it to use in the van i have in trinidad with morel components

so i woke up an started cutting board and working on the amp rack, now this is just an idea to test and make sure everything is lined up

now the floor has 2 pices a base and a top now i know the top looks crooked as hell only because its not yet secured and i used 2 scrap peices just to get the idea of what i have to do next so here are the pics

btw the little amp rack in the corner is for the dls 2 channel

all this nice equipment & you not gonna compeate? at least bring it to the next sq open testing thingy if you can & if it ever has one lets see how it scores.

quick question though, I dont mean to spam your build thread, but supposed something was to go wrong with the sub or one of the components, can you source a part for one of those or is that bye-bye?

btw, if its collecting dust you want the mtx to do I can assist.....put it in my car Embarassed

did some more work on it today

dont you just love mdf dust Neutral

changed the amplifiers from horizontal to vertical because for 2 reasons
1) i have much more space to work with say i have to tweak anything on the amps
2) the wiring of both amplifiers wouldve made it look a bit messy because of all the wires coming out in a small area..plus when i did the mazda i made the mistake of drilling the holes coming through the false floor too close to the amps and that made it a pain to get my power and ground terminations done properly so SR wouldnt flame me for a single loose strand Laughing but anyway the space between the 2 amplifiers left for wiring if it was horizontally i wouldve encountered a similar problem

the top isnt secured yet and i'm doing the top in such a way i can easily access those amplifiers.. yet it wouldnt budge

Click for full-size.

the a2 wont be visble but would be partially accessable where it is mounted..

whats left to do is, cut the door frame to mount my midbass driver, make the pod for the midrange, wire and carpet the trunk and im done

ok so i encounter a few more problems, i had to change my midbass drivers because it suffered some damage from the crash car and i didnt notice it till just recently..that is on its way..
i couldve tried to make it work for short term but even then the mounting depth was a problem as bmw had the ingenious idea of putting the window rail dead smack in the middle of where one would use mount their speaker in the door.. so i have literally almost zero mounting depth

my plan is to still cut the hole in the door but stack baffles ontop 1 another to get the depth i need..also the new driver is much more shallow so this should work out nicely..

im just awaiting on a few things to arrive from parts express like carpet and acoustic foam..

also once again I have had to re arrange my amps a bit after looking over a few things..the arrangement i showed in the last picture cannot work as the a2 because i would encounter 1 or 2 other lil problems so to eliminate it completely im going to
put it with the A4 and A6..it would be a much tighter fit but i think it would be better suited there..

i also fiberglassed my kicks just to pull the cloth and finish up..as i said the weather havent been too nice lately along with school have been keeping me back..then having to wait and check mail everyday to see if anything new arrives so i can make some progress

also that grille took hours to find online as a 4" grill not easy to find and even that as u can see isnt a 4" grill..its actually 4 1/2" ... the mounting holes was is an extention like ears to the speaker which made it so frustrating to find..

progress at a stand still for now as i'm awaiting quite a few stuff in the mail

i did cut out the rings for the driver just didnt take any pics of it..

Click for full-size.

also as i explained before the picture above shows the window rail..this is only in the coupes..so as you can see i have very limited mounting depth hence i had to change my midbass drivers coupled with the fact they sustained some damage from the accident i had which i didnt pick up on..

but how much screws do you use, because i think that its better to use screws every 2". you might use them further apart.
