dealing with cars are simple all you have to do is understand the basic stuff and your brain should do the rest
i know some tuners might not agree with me so pls feel free to do so these things i'm saying is from research and doing ah lil thing
please fell free to add your ideas too
1) thermostart - some say take it out some say leave it it's their for a reason ( reach and keep opperating temperture lever to working condition) from what i know
1 after a long period of time it sticks and stops water flow
2 if you have a leak it makes it easier to overheat and does it faster
i only take it off 4 cylinder cars not all 6 can work without it such as some of the toyota , nissan engines they never reach operating temperture because they use clutch fans so they are always being cooled
oil leaks ....
normally comes from a faulty gasket or seal or bent part
start with the front and back crank shaft seal, rocker cover ,slump pan, oil filter, drain screw, alternator (deisel), rings
and let me tell you all some thing oil treatment is crap
some response from tuners on that |
i know this is an ole thread... but i just wanted to perhaps share my thought's on the subject at hand....
A thermostat is there for a reason: it helps the engine reach operating temperature... by doing this the heat generated by an operating engine at standard operating temperature ensures full expansion of all the moving and metal parts of an engine... ie pistons and rings and bearings.... by not allowing them to attain the specified operating temperature, full compression will not be realized and thus your fuel economy will suffer due to an engine that makes less power... because the pistons haven't expanded fully... it's specified in workshop manuals that there is a certain mileage that the thermostat should be changed... most things have too; like water pump and other basics like spark plugs... it's all the same.... nothing lasts forever... on a lighter note you can however change your thermostat to a lower degree one that would help your engine temp go down seeing we live in a tropical climate... a good recommended coolant is Chevron's ELC (extended life coolant) that doesn't corrode as time goes unlike the $20 bucks a gallon coolant when it turns into acid and starts eating away at your engine and has alot better properties than the usual el cheapo coolant...
Moving on the subject of spun bearings it also the same metals expand when heated and when cold contract... it's basic science... a cold engine will perhaps spin a bearing because of the the operating temperature is too low and the engine has also not up to full oil pressure.... there is a reason why cars come with cold start functions... another factor that comes into play is that free revving without any load (ie driving) causes the engine rpm to move alot faster thus increasing the chance of a bearing being spun.... Remember crank bearing tolerances are 1-2/thousands of an inch for most engines... that's the space the oil fills to keep the metal surfaces from contacting each other!!! that's also why choosing the right oil "weight" for your application is neccesary...
i hope i've been a help to you and to all tuners like me who love cars... i always stand to be corrected because you learn something new everyday...
Keep on Boosting/Cruzing/Trucking!!!
Regards. |

Open the document. While it is opened, hit ctrl&printscreen together. Open paint program and save it as a jpeg file and it becomes a picture. Follow normal procedures after that
