If push comes to shove and u need to import your bike, why dont u just go ahead an get a KTM 690 ? Those are gorgeous bikes IMO and would actually be worth importing. |

The reason i would take the DRZ over a KTM 690 is for quiet a few reasons the 690 is i admit better in supermoto trim but for tight offroading they are ok but not great. The 690 enduro was built really to be a rally bike to be used on fast open desert type terrain and if used offroad the service costs go way up (oil change every hard ride) !! . Ive used a 690 at a KTM demo day and on the fast fire roads its good but on tight singletrack it aint!!
The DRZ is a proven bike with a Bombproof engine has decent service costs can be riden as a Supermoto or a Enduro with out much suspension messing and they cost £2300 less than the KTM!!
If i wanted a really fast offroader/Moto i would bring over a KTM superenduro R now they are nuts but at nearly £9000 its just stupid
but i have used one offroad and on road and they are great bikes just too expensive and getting parts could be a real pain.Parts for KTMs in trini could be a problem (MAYBE??) as in the UK waits of 6 weeks arent unknown
Ask anyone who has a DRZ E model i would be shocked if they had anything but good things to say!! have you had one in the past that you didint get on with?? |

Never owned one but have ridden it a couple of times.Handling is a bit soft for an enduro, but the engine power itself is superb. The KTM has stiffer springs up front and handles amazingly. The power output from the KTM engine blows away the competition anyday. Its a more logical choice for a dual purpose bike IMO.
However since price comes into play, and the difference is rather significant, its up to you to have the final say.
EDIT: i posted it before, but it deserves a second watch.

I get my suspension done by a company called Ktech and the DRZ would be no exception i always run a slightly stiffer front on most bikes to be honest. If it was a option i would just get a KTM EXC300 (2stroke power) as this is probley the best offroad bike ive ever had!! but again they cost a fair few quid need lots of attention and theres a waiting list for a new one at the moment!!!
Do you guys have a KTM dealer?? |

well the $1000 is what i've heard i'm not 100% positive......but its in that region since someone told me they paid $600 for 6 months on a 600 CBR
there's a KTM about 10 mins drive from where i live, never really got to see it up close so i dont know what model it is, and i've always seen it at night....so that dosent help much as well...........
AFAIK there isnt a KTM dealer here.......but that doesn't stop guys from owning Ducatis either....
not many ppl have the supermoto styled bikes....its usually dual sport with the 21 wheels, or its a sport bike, or its a cruiser.........i only know of 2 supermotos and i've only seen one of them......i think it migh be easier to just get a dual sport with the 21 slightly nobby tires and go off roading every weekend, cuz u wont find a track to really get into the supermoto styled riding.......... |

best thing that ive found with a supermoto is that they handle great you can ride it leg out mx style or Knee down and when the poo hits the fan its normally only minor bits that get marked!!! the same crash on a sports bike and its time to remortgage for a set of new fairings etc
To be honest supermotos arent that big in the UK i had one when the hole supermoto thing kicked off around 2000 (DRZ400E CONVERTED) and it was good fun around the country lanes but now days you dont see that many well apart from stuff like the Honda FMX but that just looks like a S/M its not a converted MX or enduro bike by any means.
In france however they are everywhere french guy i knew had a converted CR500 it was great untill it tried to kill you!!!!!!
Must say now thinking about a KTM had a email today at work they have some deals on the EXC range going to a local dealer tomorrow see what they are saying may look at a 525.....Problem with a KTM in London is they get stolen left right and centre the sticker kit may aswell say (come and nick me ) |

not sure so i'm going to ask......
when u buy a supermoto styled bike(with the road tires) how hard is it to convert it to the off-road bike (21" nobby tires)?
for example these two
WR250X
WR250R
is it as simple as just swapping the wheels or does the suspension settings, rear sprocket and brakes need to be changed/adjusted????
its because i'm thinking of getting the WR250R with the trail tires |

| ^ You can just swap out the tires if you get the right size. The suspension should be adjusted though. Those are two distinct styles of riding and each has specific suspension requirements to optimize handling.Brakes and Sprockets dont need to be changed but if you're going to be doing a lot of dirt riding, just make sure and use a lot of chain lubricant. My personal preference is Dupont Teflon Multi-Use spray or Jig-a-loo chain lube. |

Its a lot harder converting a supermoto to go offroad than a Enduro to a supermoto
my drz i had was a enduro bike the gearing was in between road and offroad cant remember ratio?? all i did was fit a set of 17" talon wheels and there you go a supermoto.I didnt touch suspension or anything and it was great never had a problem with the handling or gearing etc
i did however have a 320mm wazy disc on the talon front wheel and a adaptor bracket that fitted to the fork and then you bolted the caliper to the adaptor so stopping power was massive.Total conversion was around time eas around 10mins everytime. In the summer (hah when we get one) i would ride local trails in the morning then swap over the wheels and go scratching in the evening was the perfect setup hence the reason i would like one in Trini the roads are tight and twisty then you have the offroad oportunitys
so a enduro/supermoto should make sense..
back to the origanal question its harder to convert a factory built moto due to the really stiff suspension and the different rake and trail on the forks the angles just dont work offroad |

| Just remember to try not to get a really highly tuned bike as Supermoto riding tends to put more stress on the engine so if you dont like rebuilding a engine every 3000miles or 30hours in some case dont get a full blown mx bike (HONDA CRF 450R) ETC always go for a road legal enduro bike as these have been built for road riding as well as offroading about a 30/70 spilit so the engines will last loads longer!!! |

i wasent planning to get a fully off road bike, however i was tempted by a couple of them, especially the WR450F, which would have been quite wild
but decided to stick to the original plan and get a dual purpose |

Could you guys give me a idea how much you are paying for your kit stuff like
Kbc Vr2 helmet
Shoei xr1000 uk/RF1000 US
Alpinestars t-stunt airflo
alpinestars smx-5 boots
alpinestars smx-5 air flo gloves
Doesnt have to be these models but you get the idea!!!!
going to be talking to some people from Alpinstars in the next few days i will see what sort of prices they offer i can then see what sort of price things would sell for once imported to the island.
Do st of you get your stuff from companys in the US and then shipped down to you?? or do you get a dealer in Trini to order items then you pay the dealer?. Reason im asking is you may be paying tones to much!! i have a guy from Thailand that comes to the store about 4 times a month (Hes cabin crew for thai airways) anyway he buys loads of AGV rossi helmets from me and has a small store in Thailand where he sells them for and £100 profit the helmets cost him £150 so his poor custermers are paying £250 for a £150 helmet .If he was a bit more savvy he would get a account with AGV could sell the helmets for £160 (say) he still makes a good margin the customers get a far better deal.Is this what happens in Trini???? do dealers buy the stuff from reatil outlets in say the USA then sell them to you with there margin on top???
Easy way of telling is look what they cost in US dollers do the conversion to TT if its around 25% higher then they probley are..... |

whatever the price is in US dollars, multiply it by 10 as the general rule and thats the figure we pay....
most importers say to use that method.....cuz after shipping and customs duties.....well
cuz we have to pay the US retail price and then the other fees added to that.....
most ppl who i know that ride bikes they usually order the stuff online and have it brought in via a skybox or something...........there arent many gear shops here and usually they bring them in via a skybox too, so it's usually a little more expensive if u buy it at a gear shop compared to buying it on your own online.......
BTW i've been quoted $3500TT for the RF1000 in matte black.........which sells for $350 USD |

| Mmm Intresting $3500 tt dollers i would say is a lot in the uk you would pay around $2500 tt for that helmet will have to see what import duty etc there is to deal with but its a start!! thanks for the information!! |

check www.zorce.com its the local motorsports magazine......i think they have a forum for TORMATT
i know somone who knows some of the guys from the club, next time i see him i;ll ask him to find out some info.........
on another note.....went out last night to the usual bike spot...........some mean ass machines around now......2 highly modded non-turbo ZX-14's, a few busa's one of them was a 2009, and on a rolling start it spun the tires through the entire rev range........i've never seen a stock bike do that......tire pressure had to be dropped to a minimum for the bike to have better traction, which still wasn't ideal
but the zx-14's still impressed me the most.........everytime i see those bikes they have something new |
