dampening is for another purpose

there is term ppl use : "decouple" , which means u dont want ur speaker directly contacting d metal of ur door or back dash since like i said = rattles

what i do cut a ring of mdf & apply a bead of caulking on it (which also seals any air escaping between d mdf ring & d metal) b4 i attach it to d metal - then u screw\bolt ur speaker onto d mdf ring

see this thread

http://forums.trinituner.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=276361

its similar to what im saying ....

if u use a hard inflexible piece of steel or aluminum, u'r ok... just seal between the baffle and the car...

and also use foam tape between the steel baffle and the speaker.

foam tape - bhagwansinghs, weather stripping section.

If its thick enough, I would use it, esp if its aluminium.
