one good thing to come out of Felipe's incident! plus he will be a massive crowd puller which F1 needs now, especially in Valencia with no Alonso

that is why we love you

with Felipe's injury and with all the politic going on in F1 i must admit the rest of the season was not holding much of my interest, but now I cannot fathom missing another race.

yeah

Its a shame that the Valencia GP is beyond boring.

Schumi will be in a car he's never driven, on a track he's never driven. Lets hope he makes the best of Friday Practice 1 & 2.

Hamilton will still kick his arse tho Very Happy

BMW follows Honda out of F1

BMW has confirmed that it is to quit F1 at the end of the 2009 season, becoming the second major manufacturer to leave the sport in barely eight months.

An emergency press conference called at BMW’s headquarters in Munich confirmed the news, although the manufacturer will continue with its motorsport programme elsewhere.

The decision to restructure its motorsport plans was made following a board meeting on Tuesday, with a statement revealing that 'resources freed up as a result are to be dedicated to the development of new drive technologies and projects in the field of sustainability'.

“Of course, this was a difficult decision for us, but it’s a resolute step in view of our company's strategic realignment," Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, said. “Premium will increasingly be defined in terms of sustainability and environmental compatibility. This is an area in which we want to remain in the lead.

“In line with our Strategy Number ONE, we are continually reviewing all projects and initiatives to check them for future viability and sustainability. Our Formula One campaign is thus less a key promoter for us.

“Mario Theissen has been in charge of our motor sports program since 1999. We have scored a large number of successes in this period, including some in Formula One racing. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mario Theissen and his team for this,”

Having been an engine supplier to Williams for a number of years, BMW purchased the Sauber team in 2005 and entered a team under its own banner in 2006 – showing gradual improvement before the 2008 campaign, when Robert Kubica took BMW’s maiden win and finished fourth in the championship standings.

However, rather than build on that performance, BMW has struggled this season following the introduction of new regulations and currently lie down in eighth place in the standings with just eight points.

im sure the Ferrari team saw when his body went limp

in a split second, its near impossible to see his body go "limp" given that the only view they have of him was the on board...the closest sign would've been the telemtry showing that his feet were both on the brake and gas...and either way if they're wrong and do apply the brake, the driver could lose control and end up just as badly off...

not only that...did u see the replay? His hands didn't even jump nor slacken on the steering wheel. It look like he just drove off the track normal normal

Schumi vs Hammie vs Alonso vs (a desperate, racing for his job) Kimi vs the Brawns....throw in the redbull boys and this is gonna be good

this season could potentially see Michael and Kimi complete the remainder of the races. It would be sweet if Massa could make his return for Kimi as he leaves to pursue WRC and Michael stays on following a successful and motivating '09 season, encouraging him to come back full time with Ferrari.

Just some wishful thinking Twisted Evil

Piquet Jr. knew that was coming after he failed to score any points thus far, was consistently being out qualified by Alonso and was being an overall brat by expecting champagne and caviar to be thrown his way.

Look at Button for example, he had to wait for years to win anything, he did so with dignity, hard work and a bit of luck landing in the Brawn GP car.

Kubica should get the seat in the Renault as BMW looks to wrap up with F1 IMO.

schumi testing in the F2007

http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2009/8/9718.html

Williams against Schumacher test
Quote:
The Williams team have voiced their opposition to Ferrari’s request to let Michael Schumacher test the team’s current car in preparation for his planned Formula One comeback at the European Grand Prix.

With testing banned during the season under the current regulations, Ferrari had asked their fellow teams and the FIA for special permission to give Schumacher a run in the F60 ahead of his appearance at Valencia, where he is due to take the place of the injured Felipe Massa.

However, drawing comparisons between Schumacher’s situation and that of Toro Rosso newcomer Jaime Alguersuari, who debuted successfully in Hungary with no previous F1 experience, Williams insisted that allowing the German to test would clearly contravene the regulations and set an unfair precedent.

"In a similar situation, Williams would unhesitatingly use its current test driver,” said Williams. “For the sake of consistency and fairness, therefore, we oppose Ferrari's proposal to test ahead of the European Grand Prix."

With Ferrari having failed to obtain the agreement of all teams, it means Schumacher will now be restricted to testing an older car and using Ferrari’s factory-based simulator. On Friday he completed almost 70 laps of Italy's Mugello circuit using a two-year-old F2007 machine running on GP2 slick tyres.

Red Bull teams block Schumacher test
Quote:
Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso have joined Williams in opposing Ferrari's request to allow Michael Schumacher to test a 2009-specification ahead of his return to Formula 1 at Valencia later in the month.

The Red Bull teams are unwilling to cede to the request after Dietrich Mateschitz claimed that a similar one by Toro Rosso to give 19-year-old rookie Jaime Alguersuari some track time prior to his F1 debut in Hungary was refused.

"We asked for a test permission for Alguersuari before the Hungarian GP and it was turned down," said Mateschitz. "So why should we approve an exemption for a seven-time-champion after this?

"We are happy that Jaime did such an excellent job on his debut."

Red Bull's motorsport coordinator Helmut Marko told the Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper that he believed Michael Schumacher would have little trouble adapting to contemporary Formula 1 machinery and therefore did not need to test.

"Schumacher is experienced enough to be fairly competitive in the new car very soon," said Marko.

"To let him do an extra test is not in the spirit of the regulations. If he indeed did his run last week on GP2 rubber it will make a huge difference".

"We have the same opinion as stated in the rules, therefore we cannot agree with Michael getting a test exemption", added Marko. "And we are not the only ones to have this opinion."

F1 Returns to Montreal in 2010
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/story/2009/08/04/sp-f1-montreal.html
Quote:
Bernie Ecclestone, the head of Formula One, said on Tuesday that an agreement in principle has been reached to have F1 return to Montreal in 2010.

"We have an in-principal agreement of how we're going to make the race happen," he told CBC News .

He wouldn't disclose many details of the agreement, but said the potential deal will keep F1 in Montreal for at least the next seven years. He added that a formal agreement has to be reached in the next few weeks in order to make the deadline for the 2010 calendar.

"We're doing our best to make sure it happens," he said.

Ecclestone first broke the news to Swiss magazine Motorsport Aktuell earlier in the day.

F1 took the Canadian Grand Prix off the calendar this season because Ecclestone could not agree to financial terms with race organizers. The circuit wanted $175 million to keep the race in Montreal for five years, but the provincial government said it was too much.

"We've got the very funny, old-fashioned idea that when we go somewhere we'd like to be paid," he said.

It marked the first time in 22 years that no F1 race was held in Montreal. Ecclestone said he never wanted to leave Montreal in the first place.

"Everyone in Formula One loves the Canadian Grand Prix," Ecclestone said in the magazine interview.

Ecclestone also ruled out a return to Indianapolis, which was dropped in 2007, and said he would like to add races in South Korea and India.

Canadian and former Formula One champion Jacques Villeneuve was ecstatic when informed of the news.

"That's amazing news," Villeneuve told The Canadian Press. "It's the biggest event of the year. It was a little dull [without the GP] and financially, it helps everyone."
