|
|
Hi guys,
Some of you were very helpful last year in providing me with info about my WRX Tiptronic bugeye and I now have further questions to test your knowledge on.
In the uk, there is an argument going on about imported jap cars and their speed limitations. We know that the jap cars are limited to 215mph but what the argument is over is how to resolve this problem.
Some people over here think that a 'deristrictor/converter' will remove the limiter and the car will then be able to go faster without further work required.
Other people suggest that the jap ecu's were not programmed beyond 215mph so when they begin to go past it they don't know what to do thus the limitation of speed. This group of people suggest the only way to get round this problem is to get a remap for the ecu so the engine knows what to do past 215mph.
My jap WRX has supposedly had this de-restriction process performed on it before i bought it but it certainly won't go past 215mph.
Can any of you confirm or deny this argument?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds strange. I've seen local STi's (JDM) run past that speed (I imagine) with the removal of a speed cut via a reflash to remove it.
Top speed on the JDM IIRC is 238-240 km/h due to lower top end gearing than the STi. |

cheers knight.
Are you saying the reflash removes a limitation that currently exists or does it add the info for the ecu because it was never there in the first place?

I was under the impression that it merely removes the limit.
Not that it has to add additional "map" info.
I don't think the map on your ECU works with a "Speed" in mind...more like RPMS, Throttle position, and engine load. So at your top speed, you'd have a certain RPM and Engine load, not unlike that seen if you "run out" 4th gear say <<<<,Top speed would be just like that...but just at 5th gear (for a WRX). |

i will have to try and locate this so called delimiter in my engine and see what it is and if it is doing anything.
thanks |

yes a reflash will remove the speed limit as well as you can increase your rev limit also
bets thing to do is actually have the car reflashed by a qualified person and from thee see.
i strongly suggest installing a wideband on the car eg the AEM wideband with guage just to monitor the engine as well as an oil pressure gauge |
