|
|
Hey, I know all amplifiers are only stable up to a certain ohm rating probably 2 ohm stable or so, and I know that the lower you get your amplifier to this rating, the more power you get out of it.. Now Im wondering if there is a similar high ohmage rating for an amplifier such as 8 ohms etc. that you can wire an amplifier to. Why Im asking this question is that I wired 2 speakers both in parallel and series today and noticed that they played just as loud and clean at max volume even though the load on the amp was totally different. My amp tends to overheat so Im wondering if leaving it at the much higher ohmage wiring configuration makes more sense or if this will not solve the overheating problem/bring about other problems... |

| running the amp at a lower ohmage would have the amp running alot cooler and you wouldnt readily run into any problems |

| Pimptacular I think u ment to say at higher ohms less heat. |

| well for sum reason up to now i cant manage to find the problem as to why my amp overheating, it drivin me insane, i probably try every possible thing in the book, change position of the amp, lower the gains on preamp, use a coolin fan.. . Anyway I thought lower impedence from amplifier means greater chance of overheating..? |

| ooo thanks for the correction madman.devin, so whats your take on running the amp at a much higher impedence? Why are my midrange speakers still sounding as loud? |

I donno if it have clas ab amps that can be strapped, if they can you may be able to gat an 8 ohm load that fully utilizes your amp output.
higher impendance = less heat & less power. check basic specs on most amps, the give almost twice the power at half the impendance.
not all amps are 1 ohm stable, there are others that are 4 ohm & 0.5 ohm for daily playing. they may be able to handle a load of lower immendance for short periods of time like for spl use. |

If they play just as loud in series, why stress the amp
If overheating is still a problem relocate |

If overheating is still a problem relocate | well this makes perfect sense to me, but i was just wondering if there are any other problems which can arise by doing this. Im gona try it like this today n see if it still overheats, this overheating problem should not be happening and I have basically tried everything in the book now. Thanks guys, anybody with any further advice on this please share |

overheating: what amp are you using for what speakers?
i believe that the efficiency of the amp would give an indication of the amount of heat it would produce:
for example: usual class ab amps are not very efficient depending on model, and would be around 60-65% efficiency (contrast to class d monoblocks high end models which run at 70-75% maybe more) the rest of the efficiency would be lost in heat and other.
overheating has many variables:
class of amp
brand of amp
amount of impedance
location\environment
fan and fan direction |

I actually know a guy that uses a model similar to this and doesnt have that problem. This ting suckin d life outta meh lol I really would love to solve the problem though |
