nope...most ae86 corollas run without, seems non-power steering gives a better feedback. However that is if ur already using a non-PS steering rack.
Most other brands use PS as it's easier to turn, helping alot with the turns and switchbacks.

depends on if your lsd is in good condition really. and you must have at least enough power to get the back wheels to spin. a good power plant and clutch is an asset.

1. there are different types of lsd's

Viscous- as a liquid heats up it creates pressure which causes both wheels to hook. over time this wears out( the viscosity degrades and the diff acts like an open diff.
gear type - some come 1.5 way or 2 way the gear type is most effective but ensuring the fluid is changed at the right time is important.
clutch type - 1.5 and 2 way as well, this comes like your clutch in your gear box it needs changing when worn out.

Tsuchiya, fix or adjust if i am wrong

Swiftman_Reid, ur on point....buh practice wha u preach an get rid of your viscous lol Laughing

ur footwork (suspension) also plays an important part. I see too many hybrid SR equipped projects end up with too soft a front suspension. make sure u can get a proper suspension setup as well or else u'll find urself chasing that steering and not knowing wat the front wheels are doing...and that'll frustrate the hell out of anybody Neutral
