i lost the key for my lock nuts and i want to change them. don't want to get a flat tire i can take off the wheel.

any ideas....

You may have to weld a nut to it and then back it out. OR cut it off with a dremel, which may also destroy the studs.

OR cut a notch in them and pong it out with a hammer and a chisel or flathead (This last one not likely to work).

First option is your best bet.

use a bigger socket than the weel nut, turn it by hand until it locks then with a quick jolt with the 4 way wheel tool remove.

note the 4 way wheel tool is best recommended as it distrubitues the force evenely on both sides, plus you have more control to remove.

get a needle nose pair of vice grips and lock em on and put a pipe over the end of the vice and turn voila no damage to nuttin just be careful on the rims

post a pic of the locks....I had a similar problem last year and simply bought another set for like $40 that was exactly like the old set...

used the new key to take out the old locks and replaced them with the new set as the old ones were getting a bit bruised and rounded

double hex socket thats just smaller than the nut, tap it on and undo

this method works on any type of lock nut

see if you cud get a next lock nut at a rims/tyre shop.. the bigger socket method did work aready for us

dont stuff around with any other methods as you may end up damaging your rims, the way i stated is the easiest way to do it takes that 30 seconds to do

they could take it out in a tyre shop... i went aranguez alignment centre and they didnt even need the key to take the locks off. swift swift movements, i was like Shocked

didn't get around to trying anything yet but the socket method works for inverted type nuts too.

Lock nuts seem to not be worth it if it is so easy to take out.
I stopped using them when i realised no one would steal 14" alloys

okay so not too long ago i took the old lock nuts off by using the socket method. was quite easy, only took about 10 mins for the most because i had to keep walking back and forth to the vice.
