|
|
This thread is a spin-off from my original posts here:
http://forums.trinituner.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=260876&highlight=
I've catalogued the differences between series 1 and series 2 cars there...somewhat.
SERIES 2
The Series 2 SS's (which have the indicator on the mirrors) use a threaded (1.25 pitch) shift knob mounting, similar to what is found on late 90's nissans.
Procedure
1) According to T. Shinohara at Tajima Corp/Monster Sport, Suzuki uses "strong adhesive" (or something like loctite) on the threads when attaching the OE knob from the factory.
So it's HARD to come off.
2) Use all your strength (try using gloves or a towel), turn anticlockwise as much as you can, until it slowly begins to move. You'd need to make at least 5-6 turns before it gets any easier.
3) Once it's removed, clean the threading of any excess "adhesive" material ( i put some newspaper around the shift boot to collect any dust that may fall down onto the centre console/carpet).
4) Screw in the Suzuki Sport shift knob, align the writing to your desired position, and that's it! Keep in mind that a "generic" shift knob, while it may fit on the threading, may not seat perfectly with the shift boot below (leave a gap....) so you may need an adapter.
Review notes:
Those who have been following my posts would probably realise I had bought this knob as a package with the SuzukiSport Sport-Driving clutch pedal setup that I installed couple 'o months aback. I only now installed this knob....as it was THAT hard to get off the OE knob on my car (it may be easier on yours).
The OE knob is pretty nice, good weighting, and nice feel. However, it's stock....and that means everyone with a 5MT SS will also have the same thing (bad IMHO). The SuzukiSport shift knob comes in two shapes (I chose the ball type), and in two colours (white or black).
It's slightly lighter than the OE knob, but the feel of the material the knob is made of, in your hand, is far superior to the OE one. It also feels a little more direct, (more mechanical), which IMHO, adds to the sporty feel of the car along with the new "Sport driving" clutch.
The Suzukisport (brushed aluminum finish) shift pattern badging is a nice extra touch to the install

Series 1 cars (guys who don't have the indicator on the side mirrors):
Check this link out here:http://swiftclubsg.com/forumv1/viewtopic.php?p=193569&highlight=shift+knob#193569
You guys have a pull type mounted shift knob. Procedure:
1) Pull UPWARD on the OE knob as hard as you can. It should pop off, and leave something like this (these pics are not off my car......this guy is seriously disorganized):
 | | Click for full-size. |
2) You can ONLY mount an original series 1 SuzukiSport Shift knob, unless you make an adapter for a generic knob, at this point. Line up the knob's "t" mount (see underneath) and fit over the knob mount
3) Hit the knob a hard smack on the top, and it'll go right in

Dude....looks good!
No it won't fit the regular swift, even the current model ones, as they carry the "T-adapter" that was found on the series one Swift Sports (if memory serves).
This is a very nice piece.....it makes a DRAMATIC difference when compared to stock. |
