That's a reasonable statement. |

Guys i am not trying to discourage anyone from racing. I just don't want everyone's eagerness to cloud the safety issues. Trust me that road could was barely wide enough for 1 car in certain parts. Don't let the videos mislead you - the corner was by far the widest section other than the finish maybe. Its an old US Army road to the Tracking Station. Not nearly as wide as the B'dos King of the Hill contest that everyone knows.
The stage is great but trust me skating your 100+ bhp Suzuki Swift road car on a corner and running 2-3ft (YES 2-3ft - its that narrow) off the road into a tree is going to have dangerous consequences without a cage. Not to mention a 500bhp Skyline that i am sure some people are already considering. Unless you plan to put 2 rows of tires on either side for over 1km of road then trust me on this - A cage WILL save your leg, arm and dare i say YOUR LIFE.
This stage (note i said stage - not event) is perfect for rally cars and circuit cars. Navigators can be left as optional as on one hand they are almost a must for a Rally driver they will also add unwanted weight for this type of event. There is no shortage of cars with cages in them locally so if promoted well this event can easily attract 40-50 cars with a few classes.
It may be worth some consideration to have a 'coned' slower course on the Saturday and maybe a high speed course on the Sunday which could definitely attract a number of enthusiasts. It is something that the TTRC and CARS will be working toward i am sure.
The TTRC has the timing system to handle the event and to be fair it is basically a Tarmac Rally set up in terms of the logistics with the exception being no transit back to the start until the end of a complete stage run. |

One lil comment here. The Tarmac part of this course is quite good but rather narrow.
Once one gets off the CLEAN tarmac and onto the loose stuff on either side (the marbles as is said elsewhere), but still on Tarmac, you are into a new battle with trying to regain control without causing damage.
In a few areas, this can be fun, others, serious trouble.
It is great to have such enthusiasm with drivers wishing to participate in this type of event, but one must be extremely careful in trying to compromise on safety, especially within the car.
But keep up the dialog, the pros and cons, and I am sure a nice middle ground will be arrived at that would satisfy all parties.
Let’s just look at the type of helmets?? that were used back in the early days of motor racing and what is necessary today. |

yes i agree that the course is a very dangerous one...the road is very narrow and there is no margin for error...the sides of the course had dry leaves and marbles which would make it difficult on any car, especially the rwd's...
i dont think that there is enough space on the course to place tire walls though... |

considering the need for marshals and full safety, ambulance, fire etc for this event I doubt it would be wise to allow ppl to go practicing on that hill without everything in place. |

This road is closed at all times. It is not a public road, not only that it is frequented with people exercising (riding, running, walking etc). If and when this event is happening again it will be a case of driving it the day before/or morning of to take some basic notes. Unfortunately there is no way of practicing. But the beauty and concept of a King of the Hill type event is that you essentially 'drive it as you see it'. Everyone has the same disadvantage of not having intimate knowledge of the course. Unless you want to go and exercise and walk the hill.
As mentioned before this is a perfect event for circuit and rally cars. The timing and logistics of the event are exactly like a tarmac rally stage.
A few of the authorities of the clubs TTRC, TTASA, and CARS have already started some post mortem and dialogue. Trust me have some patience and this will be done again with more competitors and hype.

Mr. Banzai..."yuh driving in the next event?...NO?...."
Hear the deal, you drive, I navigate! And I have sat with one of the best drivers with a high threshold of driving on the limit eh, ever hear about Gordon Gonsalves???
And Zeriam, "understood but i was asking if this would be a possablity because i'm greatly interested in this aspect of motor sport as we dont have a circuit."
Again great to have enthusiasts wishing to take part in these events, but this is pushing you into the deep end to start to learn to swim. Hopefully, another location with greater areas to allow for recovery from any slip ups can be found, that would still be exciting and cater for first time competitors in this type of event. |

I'm hoping to be at the next dex to try it and also to re-familiarize myself with my car once more as i have not had it for a few months now. |
