One name not called is VP Stoute who should have been racing in Drags in Grenada, but the Good Lord directed that he be at the First Hill-climb in T&T.
Ok so Robbie only tell half the story. He did not say about those extremely competitive Rally men who were searching for the best type of Tarmac slicks the night before and disturbing his beauty sleep. And they all put on the best poker faces to pretend this is no big thing, they just taking it easy, and no problem with whatever time they get.
Big lie, everyone of them quietly looking to put some good licks on the next one, man saving weight by putting in just enough gas to go up and come back down! Next one wondering whether the change in elevation may need for him to change the mapping - Pikes Peak thing!
And the competition was nicely spaced out in the different classes. Nobody will say that John had them cornered until he put a wheel slightly off the tarmac into the loose stuff, and the trees – like in the old Battan War movie, start to come at him, and he had another surprise when the side airbag hit him a tap – now remember the trees come and bounce the right rear of the car eh. Can’t blame the navigator here either.
The Professor showed that he still had the fire in him to battle among these seasoned campaigners. Do you really need a navigator? The best shot was displayed at the finish markers where there was some space to really let it all hang out.
In the two wheel class, the guys also had some serious fun, with the winner as stated before probably shocked after the event that he came to just see what this was all about and being declared a class winner in the end. Good to see Jameer, in all his glee, first looking at his ex circuit Corolla in action again, and then enjoying the benefit of a fully sponsored Yellow 2nd Gen Turbo Mazda courtesy of Stoute Enterprises, and he real bold face being the only one to leave a trail of tyre marks off the start line. We all hoping that just maybe, he might baffle the doctors this morning with the system getting a good adrenalin blowout.
Tanko promised to be in the next event as a competitor. Also scouting out the scene was Ahamad Mustapha and his two sons, wonder if we will see the likes of ZAMMA being resurrected. But poor Ahamad heart skipped a beat when the sons came back down the hill with the Audi Q7 and had to call on the Quattro and ABS to just avoid their own drama.
Can’t forget Joe and Rawlins who ensured that nobody was left to dehydrate.
It was really grate that there were only 10 competing cars and not many spectators. This allowed for total control this time around and shows what is necessary for a bigger and better event. Major concern was leaving the area in the pristine condition it was in before, and picking up every bit of thrash that may have been dropped in error. |

The course was closed and marshaled. No one was allowed up or down while a competitor was on the stage. The next competitor could not start until the previous car had finished (with confirmation via radio).
The area was 'rented' for the day. |

"The next competitor could not start until the previous car had finished (with confirmation via radio). "
And the trees that jumped out at John were politely asked to return to their original position. Just wonder if Ainsley or Robbie had a hand in talking to them trees.
Real nice atmosphere, nice camaradie, real fun, - this is how all motorsports events should be at the end of the day. |

this event was really fun...i enjoyed myself a lot...being a novice i was quite nervous at the beginning but the atmosphere and camaraderie as mr rawle said quickly alleviated that...also i appreciate the advice and support ALL of the competitors and organisers gave me...
as permission was granted only at friday afternoon i thought that there was a good turnout considering this...i cant wait for the next one!... |
