What is the correct way to install a volt meter, i have one of those blue stinger ones to install.
Where should it be placed, wiring etc.
Thanks |

| i installed my voltmeter off the cigarette lighter. i dont use the cigarette lighter so its pretty simple. you could connect both the power and switch wires to the positive on the jack of the cigarette lighter and negative to negative. this way only when you turn the key to accessories and the cigarette ligher has power, the voltmeter would come on and when the key is taken off, the voltmeter comes off. |

^^^ I've got mine connected similarly but I use the deck rem to bring it on. People wud argue that it shud be connected at the amps power inputs to cater for V drop but I don't worry with 0awg run right through I don't see much of a drop.... I measured prior to installing.
Another concern you may have is if the thin wires of your voltmeter are made too long to reach the back of your car that itself may cause a voltage loss and incorrect reading... in theory I think this is possible. |

| place it near your amps so you can monitor the actual voltage the amp is seeing.. yes, it will be different than the voltage at other locations in your vehicle.. |

| in that case he can hook it up directly to the power connections on the amp then? would that damage the voltmeter when the amps draw loads of current? |

^^ thats how i have mine from ever since with no problem...but thats in my spl comp set since i dont really use 1 for daily use because daily set hardly draws much current
obviously ppl wud want d meter upfront where they cud see it - u wont get much of a important drop difference , maybe a 0.1 volt....

| so i guess i can take the positive negative and remote from the amp then and place the meter close to the amps? |

| yes , u cud also run some longer similar gauge wires like what d meter came with if u want it located on ur dashboard or somewhere up front ... |

No, a voltmeter in parallel has extremely high resistance and that current never passes through it. |

| on the topic of volt meters, those built-in HU volt meters are those any good? My pios 6800mp have one as a display how accurate is it? should i invest in a stinger also? |

Good question.. I got one on my Audio Control indash epi and was wondering how accurate it was. When I check the voltage on the Epi and checked the volt metre that is connected to the battery pole + I see a difference of 1 volt less on the epi. I definitely know that I wired everthing perfect cause I took my time and invested in premium wires so not it got me wondering which reading is precise |

exactly 1 volt less? that's s huge difference.. the volt meter on the audiocontrol should be pretty accurate..
what is your voltage with the engine off / on as seen on the epic?
most likely you would have wired your epic onto the factory harness.. in my vehicle, i get a 0.1 - 0.2V drop from my battery to the wires inside my dash, so it shows the quality of my OE wiring.. |

| maybe u can probably try using a three way switch ........connect the battery positive and the amp positive to the two poles on the switch that way you can check to see exactly how much u are losing from upfront to the amps!! |

All the power was taken from one source then split with a distribution block to power the amps, deck and epi. The same was done for the ground wires. |

^^^ I guess operate it outside its safe voltage range.
I'm not too sure what would happen if its connected in series. If the resistance of the meter is too high then all the voltage will be presented across the terminals of the meter leaving all other devices without a voltage at its inputs... in which case they won't even turn on.
I say connect it to a 220V supply |

So i installed my new stinger volt meter, there is a dial inside in meter to adjust the accuracy. What did you guys use measure the voltage against the stinger? i used my multimeter to fine tune it. Also From the cig lighter & from near the amps it read the same, i didnt see a difference or drop in voltage |
