| well i know they slide with weight transfer but using the x to condrol angle and dorection. i just doh know.......... i think we should first define whats a drift |

(it all depends all the type of car being used) Then slightly turn away from the bend and then cut back towards it hard while at the same time releasing the clutch and causing the rear wheels to spin. The drifter has a loss of traction and is beginning to slide around the curve. This is the hard part. You have to hold the drift until the next bent. To achieve this you must keep your foot on the accelerator while at the same time controlling your car with the steering wheel so you don't spin out. It's not as easy as it sounds. Then as the drifter reaches the end of the bend and approaches the next bend which is in the opposite direction he must cut the wheel in that direction and in some cases, if the previous drift was to slow and they start to regain traction, he must pop the clutch again to get the wheels spinning. And that is how you drift a rear wheel drive car. The second technique is used by a few drifters in rear wheel drives, but it is the only way you can really drift a front wheel drive. You have to use the hand brake. A front wheel drive car can not swing it's tail out because the tires are being driven in the front rather the rear. So when approaching a bend you pull-up the hand brake to cause traction loss. The rest is quite the same except that it's much harder to take more than one corner with a front wheel drive car. Don't try this at home…………… |

hoss if you want to see what FWD drifting is truly about you need to google this man, his name is Jean Ragnotti. He used to drive for renault in a clio maxi (2.0L, 200whp sequential gearbox) but he is call the FWD master. He's the only man to ever drive all schools of motorsport. Rally, Indy, formula 1.
Look up the videos on youtube. The man literally makes a FWD look like a RWD. |

FWD can drift in two ways...
1) come into the corner REALLY hot and try to turn... the car will magically 'drift' straight off the track
2) Run rear wheels that are smaller than your front wheels and the car will slide like nobody's business.
I did the 2nd option at a night dex when fixables and I were sharing the Xclone and the car was 'drifting' predictably. |

i remember reading and experiencing that drifting doesnt need much power but with the FWD drift, does it need more power cause to me, the hand brakes is just holding the rear wheel still. does this mean with little power, you wont be able to hold a drift that long? since with RWD the tires keep spining to keep the lose of traction going but FWD, the tires just stop and will cut the drift short if there is not enough power in the front to pull them?
no expert, just wanna get some info. |

You can make a FWD vehicle get very sideways depending on suspension set up. Car: Toyota Starlet Glanza V Auto. Suspension: STD toyota. Tyres: Budget. Engine: STD 135bhp/133lbft.
Approach corner or in my case 100 yard round-a-bout, with some velocity @ 120kph locked in 2ND gear. Turn steering away from corner qucikly then into the corner whist applying brakes with left foot, deaccelerating to transfer weight to front of car @ 70-80kph. Back end will be come light and the car will start to turn into corner like a pendulum. Countersteer to keep front wheels in the direction of intended travel and straighten the car by getting back on the throttle shift up to 3rd/D when settled/straight. It is called the "Scandenavian flick" or "Feint". If the car starts to turn to quickly and you are slow to coordinate the above the car will spin/ crash and or face the opposite way.

a time wallers was rained out and few of us went ARC and did this
i used nitrous for the power into the corner and then flicked and off and yanked the ebrake to let the back loose
was quite fun, tyres still have the evidence |
