Yo man sry about that.. Yeah.. its a 1.6 L 5-Door Fuel Injected Local Vitara. Im looking at my instruction manual an im seeing that there is a 2.0 Diesel that these vans come with does anyone know about that or where i cud get one.. or if anyone is willing to swap a new gas engine for a diesel.. or anything if the sort..
Don't think that my engine is excessively inefficient.. i put 120 gas for 6 days to an From UWI but thats without the Ac on..i still find its a bit high.. for a Suzuki.. My plugs new olil filters hoses gas filter tyres new correct pressure , and threading new air sensor element , i cleaned out intake new air intake filter.. etc.. what im not sure about is that there is a black screw on the Throttle body that apparently controls the RPM but.. i had this set a bit low so at idle i was abt 700 rpm... i raised it to 1000 the other day id like to kno if this screw solely control the rpm or if its an air screw that can definately affect fuel economy ..
What about the 3 cylinder turbo if anyone has one can u tell me fuel ratings plz ..and what kinda price one goes for... |

^^yea man, that screw is the idle screw, my van idles at about 1000rpm as well. it shouldnt affect fuel economy to any large extent, unless u have it pretty high (more dan 1300-1500) which is dumb lol. the diesel engine that these came with are really a 1.9, well 1967cc, so they round it to 2.0 in some places. they were built by peugeot, however the newer diesel engines were built by renault. anyway, from what ive heard, these engines are pretty hard to find, since they were hardly sold in japan.
if you thinking about puttin in a 3cyl turbo, it may not be such a good idea. those are 660cc, thats about half your current engine lol. they are plentiful in the bamboo, last time i checked, i was getting one with gearbox for 5k, that was a while thou, when i wanted to put one in a samurai. dude $120 gas for 6 days is pretty good! what distance do you travel?
and what fuel do you use? i have found that super unleaded does last longer than premium unleaded in my van, i dunno why.
u said that you dont drive with ac, cuz since these days ridiculously hot, u mite burn more gas runnin ac, since the compressor will havta run longer and more to cool the same volume of air. (i also found i burn more gas these days than i did in early January)
i could recommend you clean out your fuel system and change the fuel filter. (the fuel filter in a kinda weird place in the back eh,so u mite wana check a mechanic). drop in a redline fuel system cleaner. |

Hey Fellas
I have a vitara with a 1.6L SOHC. I find tghe gas consumption is very high too. I carried it to check out yesterday and it so happened that the timimg belt and tensioner needed changing. The mechanic said that was the reason for the high fuel consumption. I use AC right through and was getting like 240km per tank... I will monitor it now and see how it changes. |

Ok aidan, I fixed the timing belt, tensioner and changed the plugs and also fixed the intake hose so it pulls air from the fender well.
I got 272Km on $85 super. Thats with AC running right through and a mixture of highway and back road driving.
Now also note that half the tank was used before the maintenance was done and the other half was used up after. (Previously I got about 240Km on a tank) so I guess I definately saw some improvement in the gas consumption.
I filled up the tank ($85) and I will tell you how much milage I get when I fill next time. |

^^yea man JL,, im not sure at what rpm i get at 80kmph, cuz my tach got disconnected somehow, and i didnt get chance to connect it back yet. but if its in 5th gear it feels like 4000-4500rpm.
with regards to the sloppy shifter, u mean like when u changing gear u get a lil jerk? if thats the case, then just adjust the shifter cable! |
