hey guys...

i have a little repairs to do on a B12. On the wheel well area under the back seat. I want to try to use fiberglass to effect the repairs (on a temporary basis...because i can do it myself and it will cost me nothin as i already have the raw materials)

Will the fiberglass hold to the metal?

thanks

I've seen it done before...dunno if there's any special coating/primer to be applied to the metal before you begin tho

what you using fiber glass or fiberglass filler? if its fiberglass just rub down the area(preferably) using a 180 grit sandpaper then probably 320 grit after for a smooth finish...rub till smooth or till you seeing the body metal**not necessary tho** (fiberglass filler) put masking tape to the back if its a hole and just paste it on the hole**the tape holds it in place till it drys remove the tape if you desire after it drys** you say you doing it yourself so im guessing fiber-glassing is notting new to you... however if that's not the case and you need further instructions on going about just pm me...

so why u can't post it here? Confused

I've seen body panels patched/rebuilt using the fibreglass...never understood why that was preferred over changing the panel/pressing a new section

X2!

i did this a while back on my trunk lid before i changed it. the straightner used a grinder with a sanding disc though.works just the same.

u could not have known the difference on the surface of the trunk after it was painted.and to top it off i gave the trunk lid to someone else to use and the thing still holding out! Shocked

Hook,as the op said,it's a temporary fix! Cool

^ yea using a grinder also works but i prefer sandpaper... disposing of the relevant information is no scene, because i only told him for one reason and that's so he can teach sum1 else...but i need his feedback in order to comply...

for sure the fiberglass will hold to the metal.
make sure the area where you putting down the matting free of surface rust
and the area where the matting is going to sit, using a grinder just lightly rough up the surface so the resin would hold.
be sure not to over grind eh so you don't make the surrounding metal too thin.
