w2j you should know would the stock drive train hold up to a 10 sec pass?

the evo 9/8 platform starts giving away above 500whp. i would think any stock gearbox/t-case would start letting out around there.

even under stock power the transfer case breaks if u launch too hard

yup some truth, they are tougher than most think, but it all depends on driving/lauching style. u supposed to slip the clutch on launch - basically making the clutch take the abuse.

there is actually a write up on how to launch and the 7,8 and 9 have launch control as well (9s give trouble for some reason).

also i know a lot of evo owners who have never even changed there fluids in the drivetrain...

Hoe, the guys who normally break the Tcase, launch at 6k plus RPM and then dump the clutch and expect it to stay intact. That is madness.

crazybalhead,

n00b question

other cars can be launched hard and the gearbox stands up... even after havin the clutch dumped repeatedly

why is the evo transfer case so fragile (comparatively) esp since its supposed to be rally built...

it is not weak, 500whp and standin up?

its beacause its 4WD the tries dont slip, they grip putting excessive force on the GB and T-case. if u pop clutch on a RWD + FWD the tires slip and spin

the 8MR and up have a stronger transfer case (stronger materials used in the design).

Very true-

If you launch the evo right it will leave the line very quickly - with very little tire slip (waste).

well hoe, stick with d evo and learn not to launch TOO hard.
That is good advice i give you there eh.

Don't let that minor transfer case deter yuh from the evo, it is still a reliable beast...you may have to adjust your driving habits to it Laughing

Nice launch.

New ported FP red turbo and new suspension installed today. Car feels incredible. Hipermax worth every penny. Awaiting cams and will do the injectors, cams and fuel rail together. Got some more cusco chassis bars on the way then final tune.
