White smoke = burning coolant = usually blown head/head gasket.

Blue smoke = burning oil = usually bad rings/valve seals.

It doesn't really need to be BLOWN, it could have a minor split, but it will still cause some smoke.

Oh yeah, and check the oil cap for moisture. If water/coolant is getting into the motor, it will evaporate, and collect under the cap, check it out.

i am wondering your tappets knocking a bit ... i assume they did a compression test to tell you your rings are worn maybe even a leak down ... why not rebuild and bring the engine back to standard i never quite understood this buying of second hand engines aka pig in blanket when u already know what problems you got with your current engine and its solution ... unless you want a power upgrade or dont know a good mechanic to do the rebuild.

My interest is because i recently almost got burnt to death in car that had an engine swap that appeared to be done wrong wasnt my car and no one was injured.

I had a lot of rewiring to do because it's an EK vtec FI engine and I put it in an EG nonvtec carb car. But there's would'nt be much to do if you're already FI, as long as the head and block comes with it's ecu and harness. Trust me, that engine is worth it. It saves on gas while kickin some....
