This article appeared in today's Guardian newspaper:

note: The Guardian reported TTASA as TTAA and eTecK as ETEC, we took the liberty to make these corrections for our readers.

Court awards $.5m for racing circuit
Anika Gumbs-Sandiford
Guardian South Bureau

The Trinidad & Tobago Automobile (Sports) Association (TTASA) was yesterday awarded $.5 million in compensation for being evicted from a racing track in Wallerfield three years ago.

Justice Nolan Bereaux, presiding in the San Fernando High Court, yesterday agreed to grant a consent order allowing Evolving Technologies and Enterprises Co. Ltd. (eTecK) 21 days to pay TTASA.

In September 20, 2005, TTASA received an eviction notice from eTecK ordering the association to vacate the one mile strip in two weeks.

A University of the West Indies campus site was and industrial site was expected to be constructed on the area.

However, the TTASA which stopped racing cars along the one-mile strip, and filed a lawsuit challenging the eviction notice.

The TTASA contended that millions of dollars had been invested to develop the racing circuit.

Three control towers, bleachers to accommodate 1,000 spectators and a car park, the TTASA said were erected along the racing circuit. When the matter was called, attorneys representing eTecK agreed to $500,000 to the TTASA.

Leave was granted to the TTASA to withdraw the lawsuit.

says nothing to me...personally...
...
I can only remember Bereaux's words saying to wit...'it is easier to pay off TTASA & get them out rather than allowing them (TTASA) to stay..'

^ true, that can't do much toward a new facility at all - on top of that TTASA still has to pay its own legal fees

Advil, you'd be lucky to get 5000sq ft of land for $500,000 today

thats not a drop in a bucket thats hush money

they need to add another zero to that figure

but watch and see how everybody in ttasa gonna lay claim to fame for "winning" a case

when in fact if they did thier homework there would not have been a case in the first place

bottom line

if being evicted then suitable lands and facilities should have been provided .......................anyone remembers when the airport was expanding and people were evicted from thier lands to allow the epansion

werent they all well compensated including new land and house??

could be used to offset costs to this suggestion from PartyTime.
http://forums.trinituner.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=200714&highlight=

However i see issues with that still, because it's still going to be on Briko's compound and TTASA were grated one year usage? Or are they allowed to continue there until a permanent solution is found?

^^If any is leftover after legal ffes, BEFORE they even attempt to take the Party Time proposal into consideration, they better get an OFFICIAL letter from ALL parties involved granting them access to the track if it is allowed for at least "X" amount of years.

Meaning, that if they do do it, they would have more than 6-7 months use of it, which is the current timeline they are allowed to have access to Camden for ent?

^ the lease for TTASA ends on Oct 31st 2008 - it will have to be renewed by the ministry of sport for racing to continue there - regardless of any work that was done by TTASA.

The Camden air strip is not the property of Briko. Camden is the property of Caroni (1975) Ltd. and so the Gov't.

AFAIK the gates and the concrete car park area that Briko have blocked are also property of Caroni - however since the letter from the Gov't stated that TTASA was bound to "all statutory guidelines" the safety issues raised by Briko would stand.

Well, if the proposal done by Partytime Racing Team comes to pass, the Track might then be wide enough to accomodate a Circuit Event ... I dont know ... I'm just guessing here !
