I'll give you my personal experience with a 1996 Hyundai Accent and 1997 Mitsubishi Lancer both bought new from the local dealerships.
1) The Accent gave less problems than the Lancer in the 343,000km that the Accent ran (when it was sold) as compared to the 118,000km that the Lancer is currently running.
2) The customer service from Mel's (now merged with Neal and Massey) was much better than from Diamond Motors.
3) Obtaining parts for the not so normal consumable items from Neal and Massey was never an issue, whereas with Diamond Motors they were usually out of stock.
4) The Accent will incur greater depreciation over its life. This is a major factor to consider depending upon how long you intend to keep the car. The Accent I used to drive was bought new for $69,000 in 1996 and was sold for $22,000 in 2006.
Another thing that should be considered is that the Accent is less likely to be stolen in today's crime ridden world.
The only car that I would even consider buying from Diamond Motors now is the Evo X, whereas I would have no problems in buying a Getz from Neal and Massey. |

the new 2008 accent comes pretty loaded as all are 1.6 GLS trim. The engine is the new 1.6 DOHC 16V CVVT 4-cylinder unit developed by Hyundai/Kia and is also shared with the Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Getz, Hyundai Matrix, Kia Rio and Kia Cerrato/Spectra I think. With power everything, fog lights, dual SRS airbags and very great auto reviews from the world's most critical north american market, I say the new 3rd generation Accent is a very well built and put together machine. Its easy on gas and has a body/suspension that is superior to that of any Almera or roro Corolla, Lancer, 323, Civic etc... ride quality is very toyota-like though and the materials and quality parts is a far cry from those PAZ/PBA Accents of yore. Get the premium GLS version with the 8 airbags, sunroof and 4-wheel disc brakes.
The only downside is that I find the Honda Fit, Suzuki Swift and Suzuki SX4 to have sharper handling.
2 thumbs up. |
