| i have heard about using a diaphram system, i dont know the details. Not only for CAI, but also for aftermarket intakes that have to be positioned in ways susceptable to coming in contact with rain water. |

Well, the positioning of the filter to begin with will depend on how much risk there actually is.
SOme CAI's run the filter just outside of the engine bay.....somewhere high up in the fender well (isolated from the engine, but it's not that close to the ground). Assuming your plastic fender guards are in order, this isn't such a bad position IMO.
Having it alot lower down, or better yet, with a duct leading to teh filter from your bumper = more risk.
K&N has a "Drycharger" wrap for their conical filters.....it basically helps prevent the intake from ingesting moisture. Of course, this can't protect against driving through flood!!! Or having your filter taking in some significant water...... |

Why not just swap out for a SRI until the rainy season ends? |

those aem units introduce alot of turbulence thus yielding less power
first all, drops on filter is ok
if u have to be worried in the first place, u should not drive your car through that amount of water
aye X relax nah man, your safe |

| short ram suggests filter inside engine bay with a short piece of induction pipe whereas the cai is a long induction pipe with filter isolated from engine bay |

Nope. Just that lots of folks put on a cone filter and claim they have a Cold Air Intake, when in fact they are *sometimes* shooting themselves in the foot by pulling in hot(ter) air from the engine bay with their SRI. |
