What are "slugs"?...
If it's suspension mounting points, IMHO DON'T weld on cast-iron diff-housing. It will crack.

If using axle-housing tubes instead, mount in jig BEFORE welding to prevent warping... OR... keep axles & diff installed (and keep cooled) to stiffen diff-housing... (not as good. BTW oil burns!)

OR... use different suspension links instead (eg. "equal 4-link" & panard-rod?)
... STRONGER and more reliable setup than welding on cast-iron housing IMHO.

^ ^ ^ Yup... but how many 2nrs have access to (or can afford) the correct welding proceedure?

Incorrect procedure...

Another way to repair a damaged cast-iron block (for N/A or Diesel applications ONLY) is to use
the "Metalock" method...
Cut out the cracked area, cut a steel plug to fit... drill a surrounding "ring" of small holes...
screw in Nickel plugs... surface grind plug edges.
IMHO I would NEVER use any welded block for a high-boost turbo engine.

Read---> Link--> Welding on Axle Tubes - TTORA Forum.

Link--> SOA – Axle Housing welding and possible problems (warpage ...etc.)

"Google" works wonders... Try... "axle housing welding"... etc. etc. Wink
Also "search" Hot Rod mag, Car Craft mag etc. etc. for more articles.

Whey yuh venum? Laughing
