Hey all....

I just thought we could compile a thred of the problems we experienced with our cars and state the approximate mileage it occurred at to give the rest a heads up on things for us to keep tabs on.

If the car is modded and the problem may have been caused due to a modification, please state it.

Thanks

4x,xxxkm

Rotors warped....duuh

5x,xxx km

Radiator fan motors needed servicing, the brushes in the motor had a buildup of residue which insulated the contacts. As a result, fans stopped spinning regularly and car began to overheat.

Once you increase your boost you should look out for leaks, your stock system may not be able to handle it.

1.Turbo inlet hose change (Perrin)
2.Rubber and seals change (Perrin)
3.Rec. valve change (forge)

Anywhere from around 40,000 KM and up (depending on your drive style)

The JDM GT Manual Transmission from 2004 has a fault somewhat. Subaru changed the transmission on these models and reverted to a push style clutch. The Release bearing does not have any retainer clips and this allows the bearing to float on the quill and fork. When the grease thins out, this results in clutch noise (a high pitched humming at different levels on the clutch) and premature quill wear. The noise can also be described like that of a bad or loose belt. If you hear this clutch noise and don't know what it is, have your mechanic check it. If it degrades to the point of failure, it would shatter the bearing, and possible destroy your gearbox (depending on what you were doing when it failed). I know a guy in Jamaica this happened to, and sure enough, Legacy GT gearbox does not come by easily.

Options

1 - You can grease the quill the bearing is on, but to get to this is ALOT of labour and this will cost you, so at this stage, you might as well replace it.

2 - You can replace it with the stock bearing

3 - You can replace it with an aftermarket bearing that has retainer clips built in, this will prevent the bearing from floating on the quill and fork.

N.B. - The Release Bearing is sometimes referred to as the Throw-Out Bearing.

ok at about 70,000 km the air condition compressor is making a noise ..... i heard that with the horsepower that the beast kicks out , the bearings will wear out eventually ......

Solution:

buy a new compressor together with condenser and evaporator ,
it only costs about $12,000.00 =]

^ check your grounds and battery

low voltage will give you a sorta kick when the gears change

happened to me with a slack ground

and now whenever the bass is blasting for long periods and the current drops i can feel a kick when the gears change

^^^ yes i was thinking the same thing , cause the mechanic told me that theres no way a timing belt doing 41,000km could be looking like it did !!! ...... the parts looked like it had passed the 100,000km altogether .

HYPER is right!!!! The only way to actually tell how much mileage you car is doing is to get it scanned with the subaru scanning tool....my car said 21xxx but it was actually doing 37xxx...

It may be an idea to go by N&M and pay your $300 and see what the true mileage is....that way you can plan for whatever should arise with the amount of mileage the car is actually doing....

The problems i have had with my car are somewhat not related to mileage.

Such as the problem is had with the car breaking up over 4k rpm. That was caused by a wire on the ECU harness that was sliced Shocked Dunno who the fack sliced it..

The other was one i posted not too long ago. The o2 sensor heater wire was short circuited because of constant rubbing on the drive shaft. This caused a fuse to blow. I replaced the fuse and to tell you the honest truth i think it burning less gas that it was before the problem arised. Surprised Surprised

Replaced a power steering belt @ around 35xxx.

Oh and rotors. The rotors were bad from the day i got it.......... Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Rotors changed around 40XXX and changed PS pump 50XXX.

Note: Please read your PS cover...Dextron III only (wasn't my fault but something that can be over looked and they might just throw in regular PS fluid)

It's regular tranny fluid. Our PS pump uses tranny fluid due to the high pressure, regular PS fluid screws up the seals in the pump.
