Yeah which is the best beach with the best waves for surfing in trinidad?

Also needs to know whats the price for a surf board.

And yeah I know this specific water sport is one of the most dangerous sports in the world cause I know people drowned from it padner of mine wave hit he hard in he head then the board hit em in he neck. Was a really big rough wave that day and he drowned.

But regardless this is an interesting sport I willing to take the risk.

PS: What are the odds of encountering a deadly shark while surfing?
They ever had any reports of the Great White Shark in Trinidad shores?

I hear they are found in caribbean waters but more up north.
But from what I gather the Great White dosen't exactly hunt humans infact I see ah man on a documentary petting a great white underwater the MOFO was 15 FOOT Long I believe. Shocked

Could snap a man in half with one bite

However this does not matter if a shark kill me smallthing we have to die sometime anyways so this risk of surfing is well worth it.

No we don't have the great White, but the Bull and Mako have been known to venture to our waters, and they're worse. While the Great While has the ability, it's kinda docile compared to those 2. They bad like crab and will kill you just for killing you sake, without taking one swallow.

Mayaro would be good around this time. August to September you would get the bigger waves, but you would want to head more to the Grand Lagoon side to get the best.

^Most ignorant post ever. Confused
Sharks:
Caribbean waters are patrolled by the majority of shark species the world has, Great Whites won't come in close enough to shore to pose a threat under normal circumstances, and trini waves don't break far enough off-shore to put you in danger with that species.
We do however have, Tiger sharks, Caribbean reef sharks, black tip/white tip reef sharks, bull sharks, and a couple other harmless species, yes i said harmless...sharks DO NOT see us as a food source, they are very inquisitive by nature and their only way of investigating something is to bump into it or bite...the problem is, a bite from a 15 foot white shark or other top predatory shark species IS going to be pretty bad, they usually will not bite with intent to eat or kill. We see small (around 4-5" sharks all the time in the water, especially late afternoon and early morning, which are their prime feeding times).
White sharks travel the world pretty quickly and their favourite food are seals, a surfer on a board from underneath, the silhouette looks like a seal paddling, which is what generally attracts them in the first place.
It would be advisable that if you're cut or bleeding (no matter how much, sharks can detect blood in water at concentrations of less than 1ppm from hundreds of feet away...) to get out the water, never go surfing alone, or atleast avoid it as much as possible, sharks that will pose a threat or seem curious will swim close to the surface, and more eyes in the water will increase chances of spotting one early and avoiding bacchanal.

Surf Spots:
Proper east coast has NO waves that are surfable, if any, they will only occur under HEAVY ocean swells and they will break really far out in the ocean as Mayaro/Manzan side has no reef structure to cause breaks.
Even if by a slim chance mayaro does get a good swell, toco and north coast will be 1000x better due to the same swell as reef structures their aren't the best in the world, but they are at least existent compared to proper east coast.
Spots up on toco side: Roughside/Calmside (Balandra)
Breach Break/Big Bay (San Souci)
Gran Riviere
Rampanalgas
Shark River
Matelot
North coast has some pretty good spots as well, If you have a boat, mid-north coast has some sick spots, but highly unaccessible unless you really enjoy hiking for hours with gear and a surf board through forested areas.
Surfing is pretty dangerous, but like any other sport involving danger, you just need to be very aware and know/respect your limits. When it gets big it's too easy to drown/get smashed etc, but if you're doubtful on a particular day, instincts can save your life!
Tobago is the closest we have to internationally recognized surf spots, Mt. Irvine, Airports, Lefts are all great spots with perfect waves, once a swell hits its a dream to surf...but under a big swell (easter gone had what was described as the "swell of the generation") 15'-20'+ waves are very very probable, and paddna....if that hits you....well.. Neutral

Boards:
Alan Davis is a local board shaper, he can custom amek a board for you for around $3K and fabricate it to your height/weight and experience as a swimmer...don't go willy nilly and buy a board...get a proper board to learn on, and you should ideally be very comfortable in the water, and be a strong swimmer, no jokes about that.

Just yesterday we headed up San Souci to get an early morning session, reached there like half 5am and checked Balandra first, man we were in the water for like ten mins, and we saw a shark Confused not too big, about 4 feet, but with two men alone in the water, that was kinda bummy, so we left, hit San Souci and got some decent waves, then: gravel on narrow bumpy road+crazy truck drivers+fence post= crashed rx7...again Confused

Alpine, if you do get involved, check these sites, learn to read the weather reports, go up with company and start paddling!! Cool

If its sharks you want to catch try La Foray (spelling) up Toco. Got huge sharks up there last few years, try them late evening and chum them close to the rocks by leaving a few half cut bonito in the water. Hooked a tarpon there once about 3-4 feet long and before i cld bring it in one of those sharks swallowed the entire fish... saw the entire thing Shocked Shocked

Las Cuevas, opposite end to the car park area, great place to learn surfing.

Back in the day, just before Las Cuevas, there was a dirtroad turnoff, cross a wooden rickty "bridge" then down a steep slope and you would be able to park close to end ther of Las Cuevas.

^yeah i forgot to put up Salibia, Galera is ok, but i find the swell have to be real big for there to be worthwhile yes...and when swell big enough for there, beach break, big bay, roughside and even calmside usually is going off! Very Happy
