Have a padna who has a problem when he puts the car into revers it takes a couple of seconds for the reverse gear to actually come in....

Does the transmission need to change or can it be repaired

Most likely it's an early sign of clutch failure. The reverse is the gear that starts giving trouble first until eventually the problem will get progressively worse with other gears. It will need to either be repaired or changed out eventually .

Check your radiator to see if it contains any traces of oil. If there is oil in it and it is actually transmission oil... this symptom is due to an oil cooler leak....(This actually happened to me recently) . Once the leak is detected early and u repair or replace the radiator and flush out all the contaminated oil in the tranny u will be able to save it from further damage . If the tramsmission oil seems to have a strawberry milkshake kinda look and not like typical tranny oil look ...compounded with the oil in the radiator you definitely have an oil cooler leak!

I'm not saying that this is your problem but it is something to take note of!

Yo, the tranny rubber may have burst. All he has to do is change the rubber, it would cost him less than buying a new tranny.
