Yep I kid you not...

Now I have learnt that the MAF is a weak link where that is concerned, but what I want to find out, is would it be help to clean the entire thing with electro contact cleaner?

I mean that should help somehow shouldn't it?

last but least check wires to maf insulated may not be visable

well u can service injectors , throttle body , check spark plugs , air filter and oil. mines was doing d same thing d throttle body wanted servicing

Did all of that short of the plugs.

Gonna do that when the car comes out of the Paint Shop

cleaning the maf will help for a little while...the bad consumption will return.
check O2 sensor as well!

has your car done 70,000km then you should also the change the fuel filter in the tank and do a thorough service plugs, air filter and oil
