yea thats normal for older cars that sponge ur seeing is wat is used to seal of the holes and gaps in the vents without it external air can seep in.....quite possibly the reason why ur air is flowing low too cause its being blocked by the sponge.

any patient 'tool handy' person or a/c tech can take his time and remove the vents and clean than and replace the sponge. you have to replace it. it prevents outside fumes etc from getting in.

Apart from the sponge, when was the last time you changed your filter? If the filter is clogged you will get low air flow

mammo...thanks for the heads up, i'll give him a bell.

NickJr....I changed the pollen filter about 2 weeks ago. No change in air flow volume.

A friend of mine indicated that the evaporator may need cleaning. As we in Trinidad only use recycle air, when that air, with dust, dog hair..etc etc hits the evaporator it could clog it (hence servicing necessary), that could affect the air flow. Correct me if you all think this is inncorrect?
I think he has a point.

Thanks Tuners for all the input

the evaporator and having your unit on recycle as far as i know have nothing to do with each other. The AC is a sealed system, only thing to get clogged is your filter. when u change the speed of the blower do u hear it change? Somewhere along your ducting there may be a blockage.

NickJr.

Thanks for your input. I'll have to get a qualified person to look at that for me. You know how troublesome things can get sometimes Smile

As NickJr. stated having your AC system recirculate has nothing to do with the evaportaor, what the evaporator is used for is to convert the refrigerant in your AC to a vapor, here's a lil schematic i drew up for u

Damn TriniVdub...that was clear as mud!

When the system is on fresh air, it sucks air from outside, it goes through the filter (pollen filter) and then into the car.

When it is on recycle, it sucks air from inside the car (air mixed with dust, dog hair etc), does this go through another filter or not? If not something is getting clogged.

True of false?

I believe that sponge is blocking the path for the air.
I also believe from my statement that something need cleaning. I am not a pro on this topic, but do correct me if I am wrong.

Ah just going for clarity here dais all.....

Thanks again
