Here's a question to all the 4g15 tuners out there . Common problem is that the fuel pressure regulator goes bad on the GDI DOHC(part#md362933) , has anyone ever used an after market regulator with any success on the 4g15 engine ? I know MISHI was checking this out but anyone else has ever tried this ?

There is a 4G15 GDI DOHC?

Hey.. in context of the bolt on air filter - as shown in the pics- How does using a K&N high performance air filter that fits the OEM setup, compare with the bolt on cone as shown?

I ask cause i am thinking that with the cone in that 4G15 wouldnt u be pulling hot air from inside the engine instead of cooler air....(that is is if the 4G15 is bone stock and the air filter is first upgrade bein performed).

Wow, quite a thread here. Nice info, I'm assuming most of it is useful for the 4g13 as well, since it's identical to the 4g15 SOHC, just less displacement.

So after all this talk of installing a small turbo, what happened?

Also, are there any piggyback ECUs that can boost the performance of these engines simply by being installed? If so how much do they cost?

Stephen.

Lets see.
*Using the K&N drop in filter with the stock intake setup = very slight performance gain, same quietness as stock.

*K&N filter & short ram intake (just bolted on, sucking hot air) = some performance gain, REAL PLENTY OLE NOISE when accelerating.
Click for full-size.

*Using K&N cone filter & Cold Air Intake setup = even more noticable performance gain, PLENTY LOUD NOISE when accelerating.

****Best option - Use a K&N drop in filter and the stock box, but modify the intake system to make it a Cold Air Intake. This gives you the performance increase of the cone filter & CAI, but without the loud noise.

Sorry for biggin up my intake Embarassed. But its a real fun & easy project that actually makes a noticeable difference.

Lol yeah well it doesn't look like it'll be flooding anytime soon - no rain it sight Sad . But yeah I cleaned the engine this week. Also I'm going to modify it a bit so if the weather turns rainy (& floody) I can just remove the lower portion.

das some bess advice yuh give, especially as i workin wid a limited budget but i want to get some more out of muh 4G15 DOHC.

muh engine turnin out to be a messy situation though as i got this head and block and had it fitted with the missing parts from the original engine...all because of a broken crankshaft bolt Sad

Well I just got:

1 Arospeed 3" 45 degree bend.
1 Arospeed 3" 90 degree bend.

Each had about 12" of pipe on either side of the bend, so that was all the pipe I needed. And they came with the 2 blue rubber connectors & the clamps.

Basically the total list of stuff is:
Filter.
Clamp for filter.
45 degree bend to come up from the fender into the engine bay.
Rubber connector & 2 clamps.
45 degree bend to reach the throttle body.
Rubber connector & 2 clamps to connect to throttle body.

This should work well with the 4g15 you have. The main problem I had with the CAI was that it started to make the 'vaaarp' intake noise as soon as you mashed the X passed 1/2 way. And well as you know with the 4g13 you're mashing the X passed half way most of the time Very Happy . But with the larger engine it shouldn't be too loud when you're cruising - just when you're driving hard.

srnoth, did you have to fabricate any supports for the piping?

I have a short ram with 2 90 degree bends

the person I bought it from had fabricated a support that boled onto the tranny

this allowed the intake to flex when the engine moved (and the 4G15 DOHC) moves a lot, especially when in 2nd and 1st gear)

i am considering changing this design to another short ram, this time with 2 45 degree bends, stopping just behind teh battery, but need to support the new setup

so I am contemplating how I am going to do this, obviously by a custom fabricated method, somehow

the intake must cater for flex, though

Well to be honest the only mounting I used was Zip-ties Mr. Green . But the way I ran mine, it didn't really need support - and the engine was able to vibrate & move freely without causing any problems. It rested on the body of the car where it went through to the fender, so I used a zip tie there to hold it steady. However, if you're only doing a short ram, you would need to fabricate some sort of support. What you could do it use some 2" wide flat aluminium strips, which are reasonably easily bent, to support the intake, and bolt them on where the stock filter box was.

i will indeed have to fabricate some mounts

the loaction where the stock airbox was is a candidate

i need to do it in such a manner that allows flex when the engine moves
