toymod, the owner has not yet entered this thread....I don't even think he knows of it as he is hardly on 2nr.
Anyway, from what I know, its a fully built engine...forged blah blah, port & polish blah blah, titanium blah blah, Garrett GT35r (BB), Full MSD COP ignition, Microtech Standalone EMS. |

^^ if you want to know ALL the details behind the build you can get Sixth Speed Magazine issue 6 (i.e 2.2).
"Anyway, from what I know, its a fully built engine...forged blah blah, port & polish blah blah, titanium blah blah, Garrett GT35r (BB), Full MSD COP ignition, Microtech Standalone EMS."
you're right about everything except; no port and polish sice the 3sgte didn't have anymore material to take out. Yamaha knew what there were doing and those opening are already full out.
bigger throttle body, JE pistons.......blah blah. Get the magazine |

Bullsh3it. That engine probably didn't have anything done but there are loads to do to the head.....valve ports to cut and back-cut, remove TVIS, use phenolic adapter and match port intake manifold...but don't take my word for it, visit www.mr2oc.com and see what they do to the heads across there. |

^^easy dey fella
i have no doubt you know about the 3s from forums, but all i said in ian's case was that all the pretty things you mentioned were not done. Could they have been; yes, but according to him he didn't need to open out the ports any wider in HIS case. |

I rather be a "forum 2nr" than have someone experiment and blow my turbo goodbye kisses ANYDAY....after all, the forum price on a wrc CT20b is prolly de price of a 5efte anyway.
Mr. fiveforward, you want me to take it easy yet you cast questionable aspersions as to my knowledge of the 3sgte engine.
How does "Yamaha knew what there were doing and those opening are already full out. " = "but all i said in ian's case was that all the pretty things you mentioned were not done".
Roll back up yuh tongue before this time yuh trip on it eh. |

sir i am in no way trying to cast aspersions on your knowledge BUT you have to admit that by design the 3sgte head flows very well in stock form. You don't NEED to do all that headwork to make 400+ HP, since many setups vary from engine to engine. Yes the TVIS was gone in ian's car but at the end EVERYBODY is different, 400+ is 400+, how you choose to make it is something different.
Some may do head work to increase flow, some may choose to go with a big turbo or a small turbo with nos or full out internals........you get the idea.
Whether or not you know your stuff i cannot say; but i do not doubt you level of research into the 3sgte to make an educated contribution |

wait....what makes you think I don't know? cuz I told YOU to google it?
I simply chose to tell you go google it.
your logic is transparent.
I can assure you your next post will be along the lines of: 'well if yuh cyah tell meh the meaning, yuh eh know then'
as I said, transparent. |

The head DOES flow well in stock form, but like any other engine (unless custom forged), there are small aesthetic factory imperfections in the design that can be smoothed over by a simple polish; and by match porting more flow can be achieved.
No you don't need headwork to make 400+...hell I can run 30psi on a ct20b and make it...but where's the sense in that? Take for eg, did you know that due to the design of the stock genII 3sgte manifold and fuel rail that many, many engines have blown as (in over 60% of cases done in a survey) cylinder #3 leans out on under heavy load?

Agreed and understood. Research aside, I DO know my stuff when it comes to the celica gt4 and the 3sgte. While I do admit that even when I was initially getting into the 3sgte, Ian was already plenty ahead of most of the 3s tuners at the time; I can only speak for myself when I say that in the 5 years I have had my car, I have done a significant amount of not only research but actual work on it myself. But due to demands on my time and resources otherwise I hardly get to spend as much time and energy behind it as I'd like to...or else I'd have completed my project looong time ago.
In that regard, I envy guys like shinakuma and A172 and give them props for their respective projects. |
