Having something of an issue with my transmission:
On regular driving, the transition from first to second is a little weird, it gives a little extra jerk almost to say as though it's forcing itself to go into second. The extra jerk is not all that noticeable, but it is there at times.
Sometimes I gear down to brake. First step is hitting the hold mode with instantly puts the transmission into third (once in the "D" position) and when I shift into second gear it does not go in at all until at the lowest possible RPM.
As I experienced earlier today, I pressed out a little to over take a vehicle from a standstill. Maxed out in first and swung a little into the 6500RPM rang (where the red line begins) and I had to let go of the accelerator to ease down and even when I pressed on the pedal again it did not go into second. When it did, it quickly went into third. Now after that experience, with normal driving, it goes through the proper sequence with the minor jerk as mentioned above.
Any idea what that could be Mazda peeps? One thing I must note is that the selector may be out of sync a little, meaning that, sometimes when I shift into reverse, the reverse lights do not come on instantly. I hafta wiggle the gearshift lever for them to come on |

From a standstill if i floor it, RPM's just keep going up without the gear changing, i have to let go of the X & then it'll go to 2nd. Not a nice feeling, i know how u feel.
BTW isn't the selector cable adjustable? |

| Yes it is adjustable, but I believe it is more than the selector cable. This weekend coming I might sit down witht he mazda and try and do a check on the transmission |

pablo i suggest you take it in to a tranny man as soon as possible and get it checked out
it could simply be a solenoid or it could be a lil more serious but if u wait to long u might burn up the tranny and have to change it out
pull the dip stick and check the oil if it blackish and smelling burnt u might be to late |

pablo_tt, it sounds like you real abusing your tranny IMO.
gearing down to brake should be done by moving the selector into the 'S' position (ie sport mode) with hold disengaged, NOT by engaging the hold function. Using the hold button while revs are high will cause undue stress to the tranny, and potentially over-rev your engine too when it moves from an overdrive gear to 3rd gear.
next thing, with hold engaged, the tranny shifts very quickly when in 'D', regardless of your throttle input... its normal. This feature's primary use in driving in slippery conditions where an open throttle and holding gears can cause wheel slip/spin... think of it as a mechanical form of traction control. So when engaged, acceleration is smooth and linear, with revs never building far enough to cause a break in traction... plus there's a rpm limiter which will not allow u to move from 3rd to 2nd if the revs are high enough to cause damage, which is why u couldn't gear down further by selecting 2nd gear.
IMHO it sounds like you need to switch to a gearbox, because at the rate u going with that tranny, its only going to starts to give more problems, and eventually quit |

Thanks for the input fellahs, turns out the accumulator seal was dry rot and was spewing out the fluid. Got that sorted out and car is driving smoothly, however, there might be a problem with the engine.
I believe some seals in the engine are gone and oil is actually in the engine, so what I might do is change the engine and transmission one time. I'll keep you further advised |
