hey guys, here are the ebb rules for 2008.........
EBB 2
BASS BOXING - FORMAT OVERVIEW
IASCA BASS BOXING is an SPL (sound pressure level) competition using
music as part of the judging criteria. There are two levels of competition,
the local competition (2 rounds) and the show competition (3 rounds -
usually larger scale expo events). Bass Boxing pits several competitors
against each other until one competitor prevails as “Champion”.
Bass Boxing is judged using music registering the decibel level in both
show and local competitions. However, at the “show level” of
competition, it includes showmanship and audience participation as part of
the scoring criteria. The concept in show level competition is not only to
compete against your opponent, but to put on a show for the spectator.
Round 1 is a 60 second “qualifying” round. Competitors are allowed to
use any commercially available music CD. Competitors’ can choose any
musical selection but it must be approved by an IASCA Official and must
be socially acceptable; CDs and tracks rated with “Parental
Advisories” are prohibited. Judges will register the average SPL score
during that timeframe. The top two contenders with the highest average
SPL score from Round 1 in each Bass Boxing Division will move on to
the following rounds.
In Round 2, competitors can also choose any commercially available
music CD. As in Round 1, the CD used must be approved by an IASCA
Official and must be socially acceptable. Round 2 will also last 60 seconds
and the Judges will register the average SPL score during that timeframe.
Each competitor will have a chance to register the highest average score
they can in this round. The 2nd place contender from Round 1 will go first
throwing the “First Punch” and contenders will continue to “duke it out”
until one knocks out the other. At a “local level” competition, the highest
score in Round 2 will be declared Champion.
At a “show level” competition there will be a third round that measures the
peak SPL of the audience’s response to the showmanship of the
competitor. The Judging official will ask the audience to cheer for their
favorite contender. The champion is determined by adding the scores from
Rounds 2 and 3 together.
If this format of competition sounds like fun to you, you are absolutely
correct; it is! As a matter of fact, it’s fun for everyone because anyone
with an amplifier and a subwoofer can compete in one of our several Bass
Boxing Divisions. It’s also fun for the spectators to see these cars perform,
so put on your BASS BOXING “gloves” and have a great time with us!

GENERAL BASS BOXING RULES
• The measuring device will be positioned 4 inches up from the top of
the dash and 12 inches inward from the passenger side “A” pillar for
Rounds 1 and 2.
• Competitors must completely fill out and sign their Official Bass
Boxing score sheet. Failure to do so will result in the loss of any
accrued IASCA CAP points from the event.
• Competitors’ “shows” must also be socially acceptable. Any display
that is deemed offensive in nature by the judges will not be allowed
and could result in disqualification without recourse. If you are
uncertain whether any part of your "show" is appropriate or not,
please consult with the Bass Boxing judges for verification as to its
compliance.
• EQUIPMENT FAILURE - Should any competitor experience
equipment failure while in the "ring" prior to competing, they will be
allowed 5 (five) minutes to repair the problem. If the problem cannot
be corrected within the allotted time, it will be considered a TKO.
• During competition, competitors must ensure that the music they are
playing can be heard clearly outside (e.g. at minimum one window,
door or hatch must be fully open at all times, not including the hood).
Competitors have the option of opening and closing any
compartments or panels of the vehicle during the competition rounds,
as long as one panel stays open.
• Bass Boxing competitors must play full spectrum musical tracks only.
Sine sweeps, test tones, bass drops, bass bombs, etc. are not allowed.
CDs with test tones, sweeps, bass drops or bass bombs embedded in
the music background are also not allowed.
• Contenders must be ready to compete when called upon by the Bass
Boxing Officials. If a competitor fails to appear in the Bass Boxing
arena when called upon, they will be subject to disqualification
without recourse.
• Bass Boxing vehicles in the Middleweight/Heavyweight Divisions
must be operated from outside the vehicle. Flyweight, Featherweight
and Lightweight Division competitors operating the system from
inside the vehicle must wear approved hearing protection. Failure to
do so will result in disqualification without recourse.
• In the Round 3 judging at “show level” competitions, the use of any
noise making devices to increase the audience response score is not
allowed. In the instance where a device is used the competitor will
have another chance to register a score. If during the second attempt a
device is used the competitor will be disqualified without recourse.
• Competitors are allowed up to six (6) people (co-pilots) to assist them
throughout all rounds.

amount of square inches of subwoofer cone area and the degree of
modifications to their vehicles. This ensures that competitors are pitted
against others fairly. The following chart lists all Bass Boxing Divisions.
FLYWEIGHT DIVISION 1 to 160 sq. in (No walls)
FEATHERWEIGHT DIVISION 161 to 260 sq. in (No walls)
LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION 261+ sq. in. (No walls)
MIDDLEWEIGHT DIVISION 1-720 sq. in.
(with a wall, plus additional criteria)
HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION 721+ sq. in.

function as the manufacturer intended them to; nothing may impede
their proper operation. OEM glass may not be replaced with any
transparent substitute material.
