hey, i currently own a nissan vehicle and i want to purchase either a 1.5 swift or swift sport. Automatic.
i've read several of your posts on these cars but id like to know from some owners
fuel consumption (km per tank and $ to fill tank if possible)
avalability of parts and price (expensive or not)
thanks for your replies.... |

hey....i have a swift sport auto.
fuel comsumption is like 400-450kms per tank, closer to 400 if u drive a lil hard.
no spare tire, and not much space to put a subwoofer if you actually use ur trunk
Speaking of music, the speakers are pretty lame.
Otherwise, the car is a LOT of fun. I am pretty happy I bought it. |

Parts? If your car is new, and as with any car, m'tce tends to be a bit low for the first few months/years of ownership.
But yes, parts are a little pricey.....compared to a B14/Almera (cheapest on the market). Anything is more expensive than that
IMHO, the Swift SPort's suspension is a little taut for our roads...in my car I feel it more cuz I'm running 215/40-17's.......but if this is a concern for you, the 1.5 is a better option (suspension is surprisingly softer).
The Sport NEEDS premium. You WILL destroy the engine on super....so it's not an option. Fuel consumption is a bit high for the sport, cuz the car always keeps revs high (close ratio gearbox...or in the case of an auto...a lowish final drive)....
I estimate about 26.5 mpg I'm getting on mixed driving (my car's manual though), based on my fuel consumption, plus what my "fuel economy" meter is saying. Not the best for a 1.6, but then, if you're looking at fuel economy, why buy a "sporty" car?
Just saying.
IMHO, the Sport's engine performs best, and is enjoyed best, when coupled with a manual transmission. I test drove both auto and manual before my purchase, and found the auto just...we....wasn't the same. The auto didn't "feel" as quick.
Of course, that's just my 2c.

I own an automatic 1.5 Swift.
In terms of parts, Knight1 covered it. They're expensive, as with any new car. But if you're buying brand new, they shouldn't be a problem for a good long while.
Fuel economy is very good. Much better than other cars I've driven. It's about $100 to fill the tank (with Super), and it lasts me the week. I can't give you figures, but I drive the equivalent of Piarco to Grande everyday. I agree with the others: If you drive hard, the tank will feel it.
The car handles fine, feels fast, and is much more spacious inside than you'd think.
I don't think you can go wrong with it. Tell us how it works out. |

I run a 1.5 Manual. For 100 bucks super i get 500-550kms.
The suspension is soft, too soft.... feels unstable at speeds >120km/h. I've put strut bars and an H brace which helps, 205/40 tires helped alot. But still incorrigible body roll on medium speed cornering.
I'm going to put on the tein springs soon to see if that helps the issue.
The car is reliable and a good daily driver... as said before the speakers are trash.... bu the headunit isnt that bad. A speaker upgrade and it sounds nice.
My biggest issue are the seats. Apart from the fabric being prone to staining, they are very uncomfortable for long drives... Im try to swap in some recaros out of an evo atm.
... on a side note. The sport's engine is underpowered. They ar enot that much faster than the 1.5. I will beat a auto sport form a dig, and i will jump a manual one witha good launch, but im slowly realed in. 3rd gear is hopless on the 1.5. |

^^They're not much faster because the Swift Sport is handicapped on pump premium.
Thing is, who really runs racefuel down here anyway. Just isn't practical. Premium prices and the low gas mileage hit the wallet hard as it is. The SPort might be an interesting candidate for some WMI...Silvermike........... |

| Is the swift sport ecu tunable? If so, it may be better to reflash the car to run on the local gas... Our premium makes power once u tune to its limitations.... |

^^I'm well aware that premium can make power, I run an EcuTEK tune on my WRX to round off all the uhh........."parts"....and be knock free while I'm at it.
I wish it were as simple as an OBD2 reflash........AFAIK, the Swift only responds on aftermarket EM....or at least, a piggyback (and to think I sold off my Greddy Ultimate a year aback...steups ) |

^^Definitely not in your league !! I'm still running a "small" turbo (call me an insta-boost fan/junkie ) ....and I have yet to do a dyno my new setup / current tune (lets call it a work in progress - Jason's done road tunes thus far). |

The suspension in the SS is much beefier than in the regular 1.5. The factory 16" rims are heavy and if you can get some lightweight 16" or 17" on 205/45 it is a different animal.
Due to the rigidity of the suspension however, traction and handling come right down to the tires you use....I found that the SS is not forgiving on cheap tires, despite its featherweight at the scale. The suspension at the front with the full-time ESP makes the rear easier to lose traction if you don't get your tire pressures correct also.
It is really a fun car to drive but for a family vehicle, the SS is a no-no with very limited rear seat space and limited trunk space, despite the absence of a spare tire. The ride was also very uncomfortable for my wife who complained of the rigidity whenever she sat in the back.
Hope this helps. |

FOr real jed!!! I weighed in my stockers (w/o tyres) at 18.8 lbs per wheel
I moved to some lightweight Konigs (the 17" Konig was lighter than the stock rim ). Used 215/40 tyres though...... |

^A little high......suzuki sport recommends anywhere from +48 to +40, depending on wheels width. Once it works for you.
With a 7" wide rim, you can get away with as little as a +48 offset (tried and tested) with 215/40's......
| Quote: | | do you get any rubbing at full lock ? |
Nope....none whatsoever. NO rubbing on the outside either, even on flat out cornering. The "Suzuki-Sport" 17" rims (well...offered by Suzuki) are 7.5" wide, and run a +45 mm offset IIRC...and they recommend 215/40 size tyres.
I mirrored almost the same specs, Konig Zero 17x7.5, +42 offset, with 215/40 tyres. No rubbing, and a nice flush look from the Konigs......
I only got these rims last week, so this is the only "side shot" I have (before the almighty rain came down)......

^^My next muffler is on the right side. Where's yours?
Oh...you mean the dual exit...tand he one I should have on the left? None.....that would be because I dumped the dinky stock twin exhaust, for a new single exit exhaust system from Japanese tuners, Sunline Racing. See here:
