I know its been a while since i last did 1 of these threads but i took 2mths off from doing boxes since i had some other stuff to see about ( cud have done at least jobs 10 last mth if i had the time ) but from last wk i'm back in action . ...I dont even need to bump my thread but i got 2 jobs last wk & i will post that other 1 ( 12" RE SX) up tomorrow if im not feeling lazy ... Embarassed ...another job is coming in tomorrow but thats some house audio boxes

this is going into 1995 corolla

its dual 2ohms & powered by a atomic 3000D amp

since no T\S comes with these subs the owner chose to play it safe & go exactly with plans the RE tech staff had replied in a email ...box is tuned 35hz for some nice street bass

1st time i'm trying this imageshack album thing

(but if u want to see still pics then : http://img132.imageshack.us/g/dsc01056ek.jpg/ )

slanted logo is because the sub could not have been attached level since its being held by T-nuts & there wasnt any wood surface to put the nuts due to the closeness of the sides of the box so i had to mount the sub with the logo that way

Review :

1st thing u will notice is its magnets which are [3] 1" thick stacks , DD9500 & others carry 3\4" thick magnets .

Is it heavy ? u might ask ...according to RE website its 58 Lbs ...damn it was a pita to move around

seems to be very well built though i felt they shud have been a bit more generous with gluing its dustcap on which i suspect might pop off after a while

Sound - well i 1st tested it in my wagon with the sub only resting in the box facing up : not screwed on as yet & using a 1000wrms amp & with that little bit of power it was impressive & shaking my workshop roof .

After finishing carpet & painting the port i tried a powerbass XA3000D on it . Played all the usual bass sounds like jezzy , ll jon , 3 6 mafia etc .

Plays all the notes well in "hynotize" however it does not do very well on that extreme low note in "put on" , murders on all the other notes though . Played everything in "late night tip" & "who run it" pretty good in the guy's corolla too

Bottom line : this is RE's SPL model sub & for a spl sub it plays music pretty decently . U cant expect it play smooth as say a IDmax , it sounds similar to a DD9500 but imo sounded louder .
Lows played respectable but it plays those higher notes in songs like "a milli" like WOW ! especially for a 35hz tuning .

To me the only other 12" sub i have heard louder is a pioneer 5000spl which was tuned higher than this & i wud like to think had this been tuned higher it wud have given that Pio a run , however dont expect it to play silky smooth lows like say its small brothers the SE & SX models

IMHO : its a good alternate to the ever popular DD & atomic crowd & currently this is priced a little bit cheaper too... Cool

^^^^yeah boi these kinda subs, is just build a box, hook it up, and hope it sounds good. i wonder if put in a low tuned box like mid 20s-30hz, what kinda lows this would give, or even a huge sealed box.
