12" DC Audio Level 3 Sub : Box & Review ...

(...Rovin...)

This dual 4ohms sub is going into a tuner's 2000 Nissan Wingroad Wagon .

Box will be firing towards the trunk
was designed ('only' 12" deep) & made to occupy not too much trunk depth space as the owner requested - tuned to 34hz for more of that low end bass.

I built this in the evening so i didnt have time to stop in between & take pics during the actual build ...yep the sub will be sitting counter sunk

Here is the finished product : looks simple yet it performs ! ... Wink

Review :

Looks - resembles some of the others out there but a few things like its concave dustcap & wider than normal suspension sets it apart - its basket in painted black unlike most which are silver . Its well built & i like its quick connect push terminals

Sound : Now i designed the box to play nice looows for daily use & really enjoyment IN the car rather than throwing boomy bass outside (hope the owner understands that & likes it when he hears it ) ...but trust me when i say there is adequate loudness too because my sunvisors were making a vibrating noise (along with some interior upholstery pieces too) & anything put on the front seats were moving

When i powered it on, its tones reminded me of Orion's ol skool HCCA 12" (but its not as loud obviously - its a rated 600wrms 1200wmax sub so thats to be expected) ...decent sq (loving that low end in my body) & gets enough loud too - bet if tuned higher like 38-40hz for loud streetbass it will be louder too but obvious u will lose some low end quality so thats why i chose this way.

Going to be powered with a Soundstream amp thats rated 950wrms @ 2ohms ... i tested it using my orion 2500d which is rated to do 1700wrms @ ohms so during the test i had less than 1\2 of the sub vol on my preamp & keep vol on deck below 28\40 so as to be close to the 950wrms the sub will actually be getting - handles a bit more than rated the power with no problem ...nice smooth accurate excursion .

Overall : in its price range its a very good buy , seems to be durably built & plays good decent SQL for daily enjoyment .... Cool

rovin pass by the shop yesterday, ting was shakin.

as loudsound does say "a subwoofer sounds as good as the enclosure its in"
