200 VIP cars for ministries

Postby plex » October 10th, 2008, 7:42 am

FOREIGN AFFAIRS Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon yesterday revealed that the 200 new VIP transport vehicles which Government will acquire for next year’s Fifth Summit of the Americas and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) will be “absorbedâ€

evo-STI-k

Postby evo-STI-k » October 10th, 2008, 7:52 am

So lets see 100 million divided by 200 cars- WOW
Government is prepared to spend $500,000.00 PEr car to treat the heads of state like royalty, yet they will not buy a proper FErry to service its own people.

Govt has paved and will finish paving the entire Beetham highway and all other roads that will be utilitized while they are here, yet they will not even PATCh roads for their own people.

Govt will be paying for their accommodation at the Billion dollar Hyatt, yet it leaves it own people without housing.

Nice very nice...................

So i take it that after this whole summit- we are going to see quite a few government KAnts driving BENZES, LEXUSes and VOLVOS!

heard about this on the radio a couple days ago and was waiting to see it posted up.

I wish Trinidad would step up to the Gov't...this is a slap in the face.

I still dont know how they came up with the number 200....that's a hell of a lot of cars....
and what a nice way to put it "absorbed into the ministries after"

Many of you are grossly under-informed.

No accomodation would be provided at the Hyatt for either event evo-STI-k.
The Hyatt houses the largest multipurpose facilities in the English-speaking Caribbean. These facilities would be used, hence accomodation would not be at the Hyatt as it would pose security risks.

Why the number 200?
Summit of the Americas - April 2009: 34 Heads of state + spouses + foreign ministers + aides could easily comprise a party of 8-10 (That totals 272-340 people)
This has not taken into account security details and miscellaneous support staff.
The US president's staff will number over 500.

As for CHOGM, the Queen of England, again the US president, and 51 other heads of state from all over the world, not just the Americas would be present along with staff, spouses, etc as above.

Many people have not begun to grasp the magnitude of these events, and the possible subsequent benefits thereafter.

Do some research into the events and it should help, rather than just saying what comes to mind

why don't they lease vehicles? what's the gov't gonna do with 200 luxury cars after the summit? treat them like sheit and crash them all over? go joyriding with the hornerwoman etc?

steups, they really know how to waste money yes... to spend $100M on these cars, then have hefty bills for paying for its maintenance after.

and they want to upgrade infrastructure in areas from Piarco to POS... they does really take citizens for a bunch of arseholes yes. all they doing is creating a false image by beautifying these areas, making all those officials believe that everything so nice here. (just like manning - does want to make himself look nice for people in different countries by carrying about himself in a godly manner, when infact he is a CROOK!)

i really hope something bad happens to affect this summit they're gonna have, i know it might sound bad and all, but it would be GOOD for manning and them, make them look like a bunch of FOOLS internationally.

every week there are over 200 cars probably more comin on to the roads... i don't think anyone will notice...

as for the need to buy these cars though... why not simply do leasing... i'm pretty sure leasing these 200 "luxury" vehciles for a month or even two months will cost a hell of a lot less than >100million

Outside of this microcosm within which most of you live/think, there is no PNM, there is no UNC, there certainly are COPs but they accomplish stuff, but anyway.
Wishing ill on these events would do much less to the PM and party members than it would the entire country.

I honestly do not care what the benefits are. These people are going to come and see a third world country that has money, but no clue as to how to spend it to better the standard of living.
i.e it is not justified IMO

Firstly, the Request For Proposals are for "VIP" vehicles, "luxury" is inserted by the media purely for sensationalizing the issue.

Secondly, "VIP" vehicles don't have to be MBs, BMWs or another high end brand, in most international summits , SUVs are used, in the Fourth Summit, SUVs were used and at CHOGM 2007 in Uganda SUVs were used.

Thirdly, the cost of 1 hundred million is pure speculation, again inserted by the media, cost won't be known until the RFP is responded to.

the exact time whese diplomats are here would be the PERFECT time for the country to SHUT down and Cripple itself in protest :!:

Trinidad shoudl NOT spend this kind of money in the wake of wht is currently going on , there are so many more pressing needs that are NOT being addressed and this govt DOES not care.

It does not matter how many people from whereever will be here Notorious, its quite easy for the president of the US and his entire entourage to simply bring their own Security vehicles, as well as royalty from the UK.
Why must we spend over 100 million for them :?:

Once again this Event is being used by our govt to steal money and somehow try to bring justification for spending money that we should be saving.
